R. Waldrop, aged 49, section foreman here for the Central of Georgia, was a victim of a heart attack or paralytic stroke while at work last Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock, while he had his crew of men at work near Kellyton, death following that night at 9:30 at his home. When first stricken, he was placed on a railroad motor car and brought to town, where he was taken to a physician's office and first aid rendered. The body was carried to Bethany church, above Newsite, his old home, for interment Friday afternoon, Rev. W. W. Lankford conducting the funeral exercises, assisted by Dr. J. R. Stuckey. To his friends, a pathetic incident of the death of Mr. Waldrop was the love and esteem in which the negroes who worked for him held for the dead man. They were given the use of Mr. Waldrop's automobile, and all attended the funeral, being given a place in the church during the funeral services. Mr. Waldrop is survived by his widow, four children, two boys and two girls. The boys being Raymond and James, the girls are LaRue and Mary, Raymond or "Red" as his school friends call him is a member of the Union Springs amateur baseball team and was rushed here from Union Springs upon receipt of a message telling of his father's illness, but his father never rallied sufficiently to recognize him. He is also survived by his mother, four brothers and a sister. Mr. Waldrop started work for the Central at Parkdale in 1909, he and Mr. Rawls, local agent, being thrown together at the same time and place and have remained intimates until the death of Mr. Waldrop.
