Ashland Progress
Jesse Walls, a well-known and prominent citizen of the Bethel community in the 
southern part of the county died suddenly last Wednesday night about 11 o'clock. 
He appeared to be his usual good health and spirits upon retiring for the night 
after eating a hearty supper and his death is supposed to have been the result 
of apoplexy or paralysis. His wife was awakened by his dying struggle. Mr. Walls 
was 63 years of age. All of his useful life having been spent in the Bethel 
community. He reared a large family and is survived by his wife five sons and 
three daughters, viz: W.C., H.A., A.A. and Clay Walls who reside in south Dr. 
Walls of Hackneyville, Mrs. W. H. Price, of Cragford, Mrs. E.J. Lamberth and 
Mrs. Frank Meigs, of Alexander City. The funeral service was held Friday morning 
at Bethel church where Mr. Walls was a loyal and faithful member.
