Ward, one of the very old citizens of this community, died at the home of his son, D. R. Ward near Lineville Saturday morning. The funeral services was held at the Ashland Baptist church Sunday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. P.C. Walker, and Rev. F. J. Ingram. Mr. Ward was 86 years of age and had resided within two miles of Ashland since he was a very young man. He was a charter member of the Ashland Baptist Church and was a Confederate veteran who is said to have been with General Lee at the surrender. He had been in very feeble health for some years, during which time he resided with his son. The deceased is survived by sons D. R. Ward, of Lineville, Hardy of Gadsden; Nathaniel Ward, who resides in Georgia and Greenberry Ward who resides in this county. One daughter, Mrs. E. E. Watts, of Talladega, also survives him.
