Near Cragford, Clay County, Alabama. "In Memory of the tragic death of Mrs. Lobina Knight Mitchell June 30, 1881 by the cruel hands of Charles J. Waldrop age 24 who was hanged on this spot by the public July 3, 1881 Erected by M. D. Amason Commissioner District No. 3 Clay County Alabama 1949 Additional Comments: "Biney" (1862 - 1881) was the daughter of David Ellerson Knight and Charlotte Dean. She was married to Alfred Knight in 1880 or 1881 and tragically murdered by Charles Waldrop in a case of mistaken identity on June 30, 1881. It is possible she was named for her maternal grandmother Sabina Dean as her name appears as Sabina in the 1870 and 1880 census. The enumerator's formation of the letters "L" and "S" leave room for question. Several Knight siblings married Mitchell siblings. Biney, her parents, and other family members are buried at the Cragford Cemetery, Clay County, AL.
