H, 62 Alabama Infantry CSA and an obituary at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/al/cleburne/newspapers/gnw199newspape.txt.] *Historical records of Randolph County: J. B. Amos, vice Robert Merrill, resigned, filled the unexpired term. Amos was appointed because it was claimed he was elected in 1871, and that he contested for the office and kept out by a partisan judge. He made a very good officer at first. By the latter part of the term, he got mixed and went off on the "Polly Ann" administration and was badly beaten in 1877. Jim was a big hearted fellow and as clever as he could be. He moved to Claiborne County about 1878. And was accidentally killed while hauling logs to a sawmill.
