F. McKleroy of Cleburne County, Alabama State of Alabama, Cleburne County Soldiers or Sailors Application for the Relief of Confederate Soldiers or Sailors, Residents of Alabama, Under Act Approved February 18, 1891 May 30, 1892 Personally appeared before Bartlett Owen a judge of probate in and for said County, W.F. McKleroy who being duly sworn saith that when a Private in Company I of the 44 Regiment of Ala Volunteers, and while in discharge of his duties in January 1865 at Petersberg in the State of Virginia, he contracted spinal affliction or disease from which he has been rendered disabled and in consequence of said disease he has been rendered physically uncapable of making a livelihood by labor. That he was a resident of Alabama on the 13th day of Feburary 1891 and is a resident at the date of this application; that he is engaged in the business of farming; that his taxable property does not exceed four hundred dollars in value and that his salary or gross income does not amount to four hundred dollars. Application for the Relief of Confederate Soldiers and Sailors State of Alabama, Cleburne County To the Honorable Board of Pension Examiners for said County Your Petitioner, W.F. McKleroy, respectfully represents to your honorable board that he is a resident of Cleburne County in the State of Alabama, and that he resided in said State on the first day of January in the year 1899. That he enlisted in the service of the Confederate States as a Private in Company I of the 44 Regiment on the _ day of April 1862 at Selma in the State of Alabama and that he was honorably parolled from such service on the 9 day of April 1865; that he did not desert the service of the Confederate States or the State of Alabama. That he was not wounded. That he is now unable to make a living by manual labor on account of General Debility. That he is at the time of filing this application 60 years of age and that his post office address is Trickem, Alabama. That he does not own property either in his own name nor that of his wife, to the value of $400; that his annual income does not exceed four hundred dollars and that he has no children upon whom he can depend for support. Your petitioner files herewith a complete schedule of all the property owned by himself and wife. In consideration of the foregoing facts, your petitioner asks that his name be placed upon the pension rolls in the class that your honorable board may adjudge him to belong, that he may participate in the division of funds provided for the relief of Confederate and Alabama soldiers and widows, by act of the General Assembly approved Feb 10, 1899. W.F. McKleroy, Applicant. Affadavit of Witnesses State of Ala, County of Cleburne I, H.M. Wise and Calvin Wise do solemnly swear that I am personally acquainted with W.F. McKleroy whose name is signed to the foregoing application and that I know of my own personal knowledge that the said W.F. McKleroy did serve as set forth in the application and that he did not desert the service but was honorably discharged therefrom. H.M. Wise, Calvin Wise Sworn to and subscribed before me this 2 day of June 1900, and I certify that the affiant is personally known to me and he is a person of veracity and truth. W.E. Mathews, Justice of the Peace in and for said State and County. June 7, 1900 W.F. McKleroy the applicant in response to an oral examination says, " I was in the Battle of Wilderness, Spottsylvania and the Battle of Cold Harbor VA and Gettysburg PA and was captured in that battle and was a prisoner of War till 5th Sept 1864 and surrendered with Lee's Army 9th of April 1865. " W.P. Howell, Pension Examiner, Cleburne Co., Ala From a physical examination of this applicant W.F. McKleroy, I find he has ?? and spinal aflections, no other disease, T.J. Johns, M.D., Pension Examiner June 7th 1900. State of Alabama, Cleburne County Appearing before J.H. Crumpton, a justice of the peace in and for said State and County, personally appeared, W.F. McKleroy who being first duly sworn deposes and says that he is now on the pension roll of Cleburne County in the third class; that he hereby makes application under an Act approved April 24, 1911, to be placed on the pension roll of the Second Class on account of his age; he being at the time of making this application over seventy years; he states that he was born in Carroll County, GA; that he depends solely upon his pension for support and maintenance; that he is unable to procure any other positive proof as to his age as there is no one in this part of the country to testify as to his birth. W.F. McKleroy Affadavit of Witness State of Alabama, Cleburne County I, H.B. Wise and G.W. Willingham do solemnly swear that I am acquainted with W.F. McKleroy whose name is signed to the foregoing application and that I have known him for 27 years; that from personal knowledge of him and his general appearance, I believe that he is over the age of seventy years as stated in his application. Crumpton do solemnly swear that I am acquainted with W.F. McKleroy whose name is signed to the foregoing applicatoin and that I have known him for 53 years; that from personal knowledge of him and his general appearance, he is over the age of seventy years as stated in his application.
