Their friends wish for them a life of infinite happiness. __ J.W. Hunnicutt of Vic, Ala., was in the city this week. He is the Executor of the estate of Mrs. Higginbotham and came up on business connected with the estate. __ Messrs. S.B. and H.O. Gaston are making arrangements to put down and operate a saw mill at Chulafinnee in this county. They have purchased 200 acres of fine timber land and will begin cutting and shipping lumber in a short time. Heflin will be their shipping point. They have invested about $2000. already and will add michinery as their orders justify. Mr. H.O. Gaston will operate the mill. __ Col. W.B. Ferguson, Treasurer of this county, died at his home in Edwardsville at 8:25 o'clock last night. Col. Ferguson had been confined to his bed with a bowel trouble for several weeks and his death was not unexpected. He was one of the most prominent men in the county, having held many places of trust in the county. He was universally esteemed by the people of the county who will learn of his death with regret. __ Newspaper Issue of Saturday, March 10, 1900 The bird law is now in effect and those who shoot or trap quail are liable for prosecution. __ J.M. Atkins visited his mother in Randolph County the latter part of last week and first of this week. __ Newspaper Issue of Saturday, March 17, 1900 LOCAL & PERSONAL NEWS W.M. Harris received a message Tuesday informing im of the serious illness of his sister, Mrs. Holmes at Talladega. He left Wednesday morning for her bedside but before he arrived there, she died. Mrs. Holmes, a sister of J.N. and W.M. Harris, was about 40 years old. Two children and Mrs. Holmes have died in ten days. Oscar, aged 14, died March 5th, Mrs. Holmes died March 14th, and Miss Ada, aged 23, died March 16th. The many friends of the relatives of this city sympathize with them in their grief. __ Newspaper Issue of Saturday, March 31, 1900 Mrs. E.S. Howell and children of Oxanna are visiting relatives in the city. __ W.J. Fowler, a priminent merchant and farmer of Hightower, was in the city yesterday and gave the New Era a call. He reports business good but the farming interests greatly retarded on account of so much wet weather. __ LEGAL NOTICE of ADMINISTRATION Estate of James E. Cawley, deceased; Probate Court Letters of administration of said deceased, having been granted to the undersigned on the 23rd day of March 1900, by the Honorable A.A. Hurst, Judge of Probate Court of Cleburne County; notice is hereby given that all persons having claims against said estate are hereby required to present the same within the time allowed by law, or the same will be barred. W.H.L. Carruth, Administrator ____ Dr. J.L. Simpson left Heflin Wednesday for a business visit to Etowah and Marshall Counties. On his return he found a telegram at Anniston announcing the serious illness of his mother at east Lake and he went there immediately.
