Walker immediately rode to town and surrendered to the Sheriff. He is now in jail. From reports at hand it seems that Thompson, considerably under the influence of liquor, went to the home of Walker and threatened to run Walker off. Walker protested and Thompson knocked him down twice. A third time Thompson threw him down and while in this position Walker drew his knife and almost severed Thompson's head from his body, Thompson dying instantly. __ Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Bowen of Childersburg are visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Porter in this city. ____ The baby of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Watson, died at their home one mile east of Heflin yesterday afternoon, after an illness of only a few hours. The sympathy of their friends is extended to them in their bereavement. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Saturday, July 14, 1900 Miss Mittie McKleroy of Tallapoosa, GA is visiting friends in this city. __ J.A.W. McKee has purchased of A.J. Simmons, the Howell property in south Heflin. __ Mr. and Mrs. H.A. McMurray have gone to Randolph county on a visit to relatives. __ Dr. T.L. Thomason has gone to Randolph to spend a few days with parents. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Saturday, July 21, 1900 Miss Fannie McKeldon of Athens, Tenn., is visiting Miss Hattie Perryman. __ Capt. W.H. Brimer, one of the oldest citizens of this county, died at his home, two miles north of the city, Thursday and was buried at the Black cemetery yesterday. He was about 65 years old. ___ Mr. William Haynes, grandfather of W.A. and I.E. Hubbard, of this city, died at the home of his son, Issac at Delta, Clay County Thursday morning and was buried at Chulafinnee Thursday afternoon by the Masons, of which he was a true and honored member. He was 93 years old. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Saturday, July 28, 1900 REUNION OF CONFEDERATE VETERANS Under resolution heretofore adopted , the Annual Reunion of Camp W.H. Forney will take place at Schenck's Sulphur Spring in Calhoun county, on the 8th day of August 1900, to continue three days or for such time as the Camp may determine. By order of Jno. H. Caldwell, Commander, Wm. Bell, Adjutant. The Commander urges that as many Veterans from Cleburne County attend as can. All are cordially invited. T.J. Burton, Vice Com., Cleburne County ___ Miss Roena Stephenson returned home yesterday from Boaz where she visited relatives. __ Dr. James Perryman and wife of Tuscumbia, visited their Uncle, D.A. Perryman, in the city this week. __ Masters Henry and Louis Robertson of Roanoke, VA are visiting their Aunt, Mrs. D.D. Perryman in this city. __ Mrs. J.A. Owens returned home Monday evening from an extended visit to her parents in Northeast Georgia. __ Misses Lee and Willie Ridley of Ridley, Heard County, GA are visiting the family of Col. Thos. H. Shackeford in this city. __ W.G. Milligan entertained a number of his friends with a fish fry at Evans' bridge Wednesday. About thirty-two pounds of fish were caught.
