Cole, of Cole, GA has rented the Bedwell home in west Heflin and will soon move his family here. __ E.R. Stephenson has purchased a barber shop in Cedartown, GA and will take charge of it Monday. C.J. McCraven will take charge of the shop here. __ A.D. Haley and Eugene Zaner will open a restaurant in the old drug store building Monday. They will be prepared to serve meals at all hours at popular prices. __ C.E. Jackson, T.P.A. Southern Railway and R.C. Ellis, T.P.A. Alabama Great Southern, were in Heflin this week starting parties of emigrants to Texas. Twenty-two white persons and 29 negroes composed the two parties and all were bound for Texas. __ J.P. Bedwell will leave Heflin next week for the Indian Territory to join his family who went there several weeks ago. Mr. Bedwell was born three milies south of Heflin 60 years ago and with the exception of only a few years, has lived here continuously since. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Saturday, December 8, 1900 Mrs. Stell Blake of Wedowee, is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Simon Stricklen near town. __ LEGAL NOTICE - Application to Sell Land State of Alabama, Cleburne County Probate Court special term Nov 24, 1900 This day came E.J. Kaylor, administrator of the estate of Charles Norman, deceased, and filed his application in writing under oath, praying for an order to sell the lands belonging to said estate for division and Monday, January 7, 1901, has been appointed day on which to hear and pass upon said application and notice is hereby given to all persons interested ins aid estate and especially to: Lucinda Williams who resides at Edge, Ark. Teasee Morris, wife of Jim Morris, Mt. Zion, GA Leurania Anderson, wife of Dock Anderson, Little Rock, Ark. James Norman, Little Rock, Ark. Henry Norman, Oconee, I.T. The Heirs of Katie McCaughren, deceased, whose names, numbers, ages and residences are unknown at the filing of said application; and of the day appointed to hear and pass upon said application when they can appear and contest said application if they think proper to do so. Hurst, Judge of Probate __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Saturday, December 15, 1900 LEGAL NOTICE - FINAL SETTLEMENT State of Alabama, Cleburne County Probate Court Special Term December 6, 1900 Estate of Mark Lott, deceased This day came D.M.Kaylor, administrator with the Will annexed of the estate of said decedent and filed his account, vouchers and statement for a final settlement. It is therefore ordered that the 7th day of January 1901, be and the same is hereby appointed as the day to hear and pass upon said account, and that notice of said settlement and the day for hearing and passing upon said account, be given by publication in the Cleburne New Era, a newspaper published in said county, once a week for three successive weeks prior to said 7th day of January 1901, as notice to all persons interested, and especially to: John H. Lott Henry J. Lott Mark W. Lott Richard E. Lott William E. Lott Mary A. Williamson Priscilla Johnson ; All of whom reside in the State of Texas, to appear at m office on the 7th day of January 1901 and contest said settlement if they see proper to do so. Dated at office this December 6, 1900. A.A. Hurst, Judge of Probate _____ Jack Tolleson of Justin, Tex., is at home on a visit to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. Mc. Tolleson, near town. __ Marriage licenses have been issued to J.M. Currie of the State of Washington, and Miss M.C. Crawford; and to J.T. Thrasher and Miss Rosa Norton, this week. ___ Deputy Sheriff Rowell passed through the city yesterday with W.J. Hosey charged with embezzlement. Hosey was captured in Randolph. __ J.P. Bedwell left yesterday morning to join his family in the Indian Territory. Mr. Bedwell was one of the first settlers of Heflin and left here with the best wishes of the people. __ Last Sunday at Micaville, Mr. Edward Merrill and Miss Sarah Sears were united for life. Mr. Merrill is a son of Mrs. R.E. Merrill formerly of this city and is a young man of integrity and honor. His bride is a winsome daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Sears and is a young woman of charming disposition and lovable ways. May their pathway be strewn with lovely flowers! __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Saturday, Dec 22, 1900 A dwelling owned by George Morris at Fruithurst was destroyed by fire early yesterday morning. The loss was partially covered by insurance. __ Mr. W.A. Houston, one of the oldest citizens of this county died at is home near Arbacoochee Monday evening.
