Joseph Jones, brother of Sam Jones, died at Cartersville, GA on Thursday of paralysis of the heart. Rev. Jones was a Baptist minister. __ Mr. James M. McBurnett of Wedowee, Ala, has recently secured under option, 10,000 acres of kaolin and mica lands in north Randolph County, in the civinity of the Pinetucky gold mines. The kaolin has been pronounced a very fine quality, being throughly adapted for the manufacture of the finest ware and vitrified and fire proof brick and various other purposes. Mr. McBurnett reports that the kaolin is no doubt inexhaustable and will warrant the building of a railroad. Anniston Hot Blast ____ NEWSPAPER Issue of Saturday, December 13, 1902 ZANER GETS 20 MONTHS, CHARGED WITH MURDER OF HIS BROTHER The Zaner murder trial was brought in a verdict this morning. The jury has been out since Wednesday night. The verdict returned for S.C. Zaner was 20 months in the penitentiary. It was learned that nine members of the jury were in favor of returning a verdict of guilty as charged in the indictment and that three were for acquittal. S.C. Zaner and son, Elma, were charged with the murder of Bailey Zaner, a brother of S.C. Zaner, in Heflin, in March, this year. A preliminary trial was held at Edwardsville in April and the prisoners were remanded to jail without bail. The cases were set for trial at the July term of the court but was continued and Judge Burton called a special term of the county court to try these cases and the Campbell case. The case of Elma Zaner was continued by consent, to the January term of Court. ___ Dr. A.W. Ligon and Miss Myra Gunnels of Oxford were married in Montgomery on Wednesday. Dr. Ligon has a number of friends in this city who congratulate him. __ John H. Mason and family left Heflin this morning for Mt. Pleasant, Texas where they will make their future home.
