McKee has moved his family to Oxford. He will open a blacksmith shop there. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Saturday, September 13, 1902 ARBACOOCHEE GOLD MINES SOLD On last Friday the once famous gold mine property in and around Arbacoochee was sold by the Creamer estate, the owners. The purchase was made by Mr. R.W. Gill of Ruston, LA., acting as agent for several people of that place. The lands consist of 315 acres and includes all the property in and around Arbacoochee with the exception of a few lots that were sold in the town of Arbacoochee as town lots. The Creamer heirs were in Anniston Saturday and divided the money which was received in the sale. The amount paid was $8000. and this was divided among Mrs. L.R. Bell, and Mr. W.R. Creamer, the heirs. These gold fields, away back in the fifties and along until the civil war broke out were worked extensively and at that time Arbacoochee was a thriving town of about 2,000 souls and a large amount of business was done in that place. From the breaking out of the war the population dwindled until now there is scarcely forty people living in the village. The mines, once extensively mined for gold, are now idle and filled in with fallen trees and other obstacles. It is thought that it is the purpose of the Louisiana people to form a company and again open up the mines. If such be the case, Arbacoochee may yet reach her former state and the hills of Cleburne may again ring with the merry sound of the pick of the gold miners.
