Howell, having opened a shop on Ross street in Heflin, just below Bedwell street, is prepared to make mantels, doors, plain furniture, coffins All kinds of furniture repaired. ______ G.G. Morris, watchmaker and jeweler, opposite depot, Heflin, Ala. Clocks, watches, jewelry and sewing machines repaired. ___ C.C. Thrasher, having opened ashop on Ross street is fully prepared to do all kinds of repair work on boots, shoes and harness. __ The Edmonson Hotel, Heflin, Ala, J.C. Taylor, Proprietor; furnished board and lodging; meals 25 cents per meal or one dollar per day. Guests are furnished with comfortable rooms, and wholesome well cooked food. __ Mrs. W.C. Kennedy of Carrollton, GA is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Teague. __ Miss Kittie DeArman of Anniston is visiting her cousin Miss Scarbrough. __ Miss Fannie Williamson of Gadsden is spending some time with her sister, Mrs. G.W. Davis. __ Mrs. India Dean, nee Bedwell, is spending a few weeks with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Bedwell of this town. __ DIED - - Willie the 21 year old son of Dr. Harris died yesterday evening. His daughter 18 years old is in critical condition. They have typhoid fever. __ Mr. E.R. Stephenson has been quite sick with a billious attack this week. __ Mr. J.H. Amos of Roanoke is spending a few days at the home of R.J. Teaque Esq., his father-in-law. He was called there by the sickness of his wife who is spending a few weeks with her parents. __ Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Caldwell and Mrs. and Mrs. S.S. Caldwell of Gadsden visited relatives in the neighborhood of Denman's bridge last Saturday, returning on Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. S.S. Caldwell returned to their home in Gadsden Tuesday evening. __ Mr. H.G. Noell accompanied by his wife and children left last Tuesday to visit his father who lives near Oakfuskee. __ Died- - at the home of its parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Crysel at Cullman, Ala., on Sunday the 18th inst., their babe, about 18 months. Its remains were brought to this place on Saturday and on Monday it was buried at Harmony church near town. Mrs. Crysel is a daughter of Mr. J.P. Bedwell of this place. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, July 29, 1891 The friends of Mr. J.W. Mason who is well known here as a cotton buyer, will be pained to learn that he is lying critically ill at his home in Westminister S.C. __ Freddie, the little son of Rev. F. M. Campbell is dangerously ill with typhoid fever. __ Rowland and Ada Stogner returned home from a visit to their grandfather Mr. John J. Stogner who lives near Bowdon, GA last Saturday. __ Mrs. B.O. Bridges who has been quick sick for several days with fever is still very sick although it is hoped that she is gradually improving and will soon recover. __ DIED- - Mr. Josiah Patty, a young man about 24 years old, who lived in Shoal Creek beat of this county, died of a gunshot wound on Sunday. His wife went to church on Sunday and went home with her parents from church and on account of rain that evening did not return home until Monday morning, when on opening the door she saw her husband lying dead. He had borrowed a gun from his brother to shoot crows with. His father Terry Patty, died about two years ago, of a shooting also. Josiah Patty was highly respected, industrious and quiet man. He left a wife and one or two children. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of August 13, 1891 Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Bean are visiting Mr. Bean's mother over in Calhoun this week. __ Rev. G.B. Jenkins of Temple, GA is visiting the familyof Rev. W. Hall and his stepmother, Mrs. Lucinda Jenkins in town. __ Capt. John Ross was quite sick with cholera morbus in the early part of the week. He has much improved since. __ Mr. J.N. McBurnett has moved his saw mill to the lands of Mr. Simon Stricklen near town. __ Mrs. Lucinda Jenkins who has been suffering with dropsy for several months past is in very critical condition. She is bearing her afflictions with a great deal of patience and christian fortitute and expressed a feeling of calm resignation. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, August 27, 1891 Mrs. J.R. Caldwell returned from a visit to her parents at Oxanna yesterday. __ Mr. and Mrs. J.S. Bartlett of Attala are visiting the family of Mr. W.W. Holiway, Mrs. Barlett's father, at Bell Town. __ Mr. M.D. Robinson and family returned from a visit to relatives in Carroll County, GA on last Saturday. They were accompanied on their return by J.H. Carter Esq. and family wo live in Carroll Co. __ Mr. J.A. McCain who was formerly section master on the G.P. road at tis place was over from his home in Villa Rica, GA on last Sunday. Mr. McCain is a good railroader and clever citizen. It is hoped that he will bring his family back to Heflin to live. __ DIED - - Mrs. Tumlin, wife of Mr. John W. Tumlin, living near Bell's Mills, died on last Friday of injuries received on Thursday. Her son, a lad, was hauling crib logs and finding one too heavy for him to handle alone, his mother went to assist him, putting a pole under the log. She set it up on the wagon wheel just at the moment that the team started, causing the log to fall, throwing the pole that she held upsward, striking her in the stomach from which she died in a few hours. She leaves a husband and seven children to mourn her loss.
