McKenzie. __ Our young friend, Idus Haynes, was married last Sunday to Miss Mary Kemp of Cullman county. __ T.W. Linville who has been teaching at Smyrna, has vacated until July and will move back to his farm near Pinetucky. __ County Building Notes Mr. Rolley Jenkins is erecting a handsome eight room, two story residence on Pinson street. When completed it will be one of the handsomest structures in the city. __ S.C. Zaner Jr., has just built an addition of several rooms and a gallery or two to his residence on Ross street. Mr. Zaner now has a beautiful and one of the most comfortable homes in the city. __ Mrs. M.E. Tumlin of Iron City is erecting a handsome residence on her lot on Ross street and it is now most ready for occupancy. __ Swift Bros. are erecting a new grist mill in connection with their gin on Church street. They have recently purchased a fine grist mill and we are informed that at an early date they will add a saw mill to their outfit. __ T.J. Williamson is building a handsome residence on Ross street. __ A.J. Simmons has just completed a residence on Railroad street which he intends to rent. __ J.F. Willoughby is quite sick with la grippe this week. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, March 1, 1894 We are sad to announce the death of Mrs. McDolar Bell which occurred on February 16th at her home in Santa Anna, Texas. She was well known throughout this section and has many relatives and friends who will be grieved to learn about her death. The New Era extends to the sorrow stricken husband and little ones its sympathies. __ On Sunday last evening February 25th at 6 o'clock p.m., Mr. T.J Rhodes of Edwardsville and Miss Julia Stephens of Bells Mills were united in the holy bonds of wedlock at the home of the bride's father. The groom is one of Cleburne's most promising young men and the bride is one of the most charming young ladies of the county. Rev. J.C. Garner of Ai, pronounced the words that joined their hands and hearts forever, after which all were invited into supper which was fine and beyond comparison. May their pathway of life be strewn with the richest blessings the world can give. __ WILDWOOD LOCAL COMMUNITY NEWS Our friend, James M. Lipham, we are sorry to say, is in feeble health. __ DIED - - Old Uncle Alec McKinzie, who has been in bad health for several years, died last Tuesday at the home of his son, J.F. McKinzie, near the Pinetucky gold mines. He was about 75 years old and had been a citizen of Randolph County for over fifty years. __ Married on last Sunday morning a week ago at the residence of the bride's parents Mr. and Mrs. James F. Halpin with Rev. C.S. Morrison officiating, Mr. Charles Boyd and Miss Betty Halpin. Mr. Boyd is a son of Robert Boyd of the firm of Boyd & son at Jeptha, Ala., and Miss Betty, the bride, is one of the most b eaituful and accomplished ladies of Morrison's beat. __ Mrs. D.J. Braden is quite sick and Dr. Albert Stevens of Delta has been called to see her. __ Mr. W.R. Kitchens is in very feeble health. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, March 8, 1894 W.J. Fowler of Hightower, one of Cleburne's finest and most prosperous farmers and also a reader of the New Era, is in the city on business. __ WILDWOOD Community News Mrs. Jane Kitchens is on the sick list, also one of her litttle girls. __ A very heavy snow fell here last week which covered the ground several inches in depth. __ Mr. Jeff Fowler had a rail-splitting last Friday and notwithstanding it rained, we had quite an enjoyable time. ___________________ The members of Camp Wiggonton No. 359, United Confederate Veterans, are hereby called to meet in Edwardsville on Saturday the 7th day of April 1894. Burton, Adjutant. ___ BELLS MILLS Community News Mr. Hampton Barker came home to see his mother on Friday, returning Sunday. Mr. W.L. Yarbrough came with him and visited his Uncle, of this place, Mr. Chaffin. __ There is a new boarder at Mr. John Stephens. It is a girl and you ought to see John smile. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, March 22, 1894 Mr. H.M. Vise of Prairie Grove, Texas has ordered the New Era sent to him. __ Born, on last Sunday to Mr. and Mrs. Lanthorn on Evans street, a ten pound boy. __ WILDWOOD Community News Rev. T.N. Lipham has been confined to his bed for several days past with erysipelas. It is hoped that he may soon be restored to health. __ Mr. Larkin Waters is pleased because of a new baby that arrived at his home one day last week. Mr. Jessey L. Waters is also feeling good on account of a young lady that has taken up her abode at his residence. __ Mr. John D. Ayres has informed us that he has found quite a quantity of gold on his farm. __ Hon. W.L. Ayres and Rev. C.S. Morrison, I am informed, have recently found a rich mine. __ Uncle Joel Doughtery has been quite feeble for some time. Dr. Albert Stephens of Delta was called to see him one day last week. He was some better at last accounts. __ BELL'S MILLS Community News Miss Geneva McClendon of Pleasant Hill is visiting her sister of this place, Mrs. Walter Bell. __ Mrs. Largus Bell of Edwardsville passed through our village today enroute to Arbacoochie to see her sick daughter. __ Mr. J.W. Brannon, the overseer on the road from here to Arbacoochie, is having some nice work done and we can soon say we have a good road to and from one of the most lovely villages in Cleburne County. There is not a doctor anywhere near our village. We don't need one. We only need enough hog and hominy to live on and our farmers over here have got it. The fruit trees are in bloom and the prospect is good for an abundance of fruit this year. ____ County Personal News Mrs. R.A. Ligon, who has been confined to her bed for some time is reported as doing some better. __ Mrs. Bettie Scott of Anniston is visiting her sister, Mrs. R.A. Ligon who is quite sick at her home on Bell Street. __ MR. D.A. JOHNSON, FORMERLY of HEFLIN, PASSES AWAY The New Era has received a communication from Riverside, Ala., informing us of the sad death of Mr. D.A. Johnson, who, up to a short time ago, conducted the Last Chance Saloon in this city, which occurred at his home there on last Thursday of that dreadful disease, consumption. Mr. Johnson was a straight- forward, honest, business man and during his stay here made many warm friends who will be pained to hear of his death.
