Wood, Thursday morning, a girl. __ Rev. G.W. Hall of Wedowee spent a few days in Heflin this week. __ We are a day late with our paper this week and hope our readers will pardon us. __ Mrs. W.H. Holliday accompanied by her children, spent Friday last in Anniston. __ Dr. W.A. Wood has purchased of D.W. Vaughan his four room dwelling on Evans street. __ Rev. J.F. Thompson went up to Edwardsville yesterday to preach the funeral of Miss Dussie Tyler who died near here Wednesday morning. __ Mrs. L.R. Sabbeston of Birmingham, after spending a week in the city a guest of her friend Mrs. Jno. P. Weaver, returned home last Tuesday. __ MARRIED - - at the residence of J.R. Davies Esq., yesterday evening, Miss Necy McCollum to Mr. John J. Henry, with Esq. Davies performing the ceremony. __ W.J. Beverly of Rosewood this county, will shortly move to Heflin and open a store. He will use the Ironclad for his store room. His family will occupy the Ligon house. __ A SAD DEATH With sad and sympathizing hearts, we announce the death of Miss Dussie Tyler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Tyler of near Heflin. Miss Dussie was a sweet promising girl and the only daughter of her parents. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved parents.. __ FOUND - - On Sunday September 27th, Bennie Hilburn and Ransome Wiggins found under the depot platform, the following goods: 8 pairs women shoes; 4 pair mens shoes; 22 yards hickory shirting and 1 counterpane. The goods are awaiting identification at the residence of L.M. Powell. The owner can get them by describing them and paying for this notice. ___ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, October 22, 1896 LOCAL NEWS D.W. Vaughan is attending the colt show and races at the Oxford Lake this weekend. __ Mrs. W.F. Stephenon is spending the week in Anniston with her daughter, Mrs. A.A. Campbell. __ Mr. J.A. Roberson of Waco, GA representing the Carrollton GA Marble Company has been in Heflin several days this week. __ Dr. and Mrs. L.W. Pitchford of Arbacoochee, spent a few hours in Helflin Wednesday morning. Mrs. Pitchford was enroute to Talladega to visit her parents. __ G.B. Payne, a popular bridge foreman of the Southern Railway will shortly move his family to Heflin. They will occupy the residence recently vacated by Will Worley. __ Rev. J.C. Heplinstall of near Oakfuskee this county, brought seven bales of cotton to Heflin one day last week. Rev. Heplinstall is a model farmer as well as an able minister of the gospel. __ FOR SALE - - The Heflin Fruit Growing and Improvement Association will sell to the highest bidder for cash on Monday Nov 2, 1896, in front of Hunnicutt's store at 10 o'clock a.m., one house and 10 acre lot known as the Bob Norred house in west Heflin. The lot is improved and has 700 grape vines growing on it. ___ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, October 29, 1896 LOCAL NEWS Mrs. H.M. Handberry of Birmingham, after spending a couple of weeks with the family of S.C. Zaner, returned home last Saturday. Miss Irene Zaner accompaied her on her return. ___ The many friends of Mrs. Martha Tumlin will be pained to learn of her serious illness at her home in Heflin. She is reported some better doday and an early recovery is sincerely wished for. __ Mrs. W.A. Burns of Arkansas, after spending several says with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Montgomery, has gone to Talladega to visit relatives. She was accompanied by Mrs. Montgomery who will remain there until conference convenes. __ Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Carter of Anniston spent a few days in Heflin this week visiting Mrs. J.C. Taylor.
