Hall, executor of the estate of Mrs. L.R. Jenkins, deceased and filed his account and vouchers for the final settlement and distribution of said estate, and the 5th day of February having been appointed by the court for examining, auditing and stating the same, notice is hereby given to all parties interested to appear at the term of the court aforesaid and contest the same if they think proper. Owens, a prominent merchant of Buford, GA is visiting his father's family in Heflin this week. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, January 21, 1897 LOCAL NEWS Postmaster Bean visited his mother who is sick at her home near Oxford this week. ___ Charles F. Carruth, formerly of Heflin, now of Nashville, Tenn., is in the city representing a soap and oil form of Nashville. ___ Miss Moria Blake of Oakfuskee who has been visiting her sister, Mrs. H.G. Noell, in Heflin several days, has returned home. ___ J.R. Minnick of Stonehill, this county, was in Heflin yesterday. ___ John P. Bedwell, an ex-Heflinite, now of Birmingham, visited his father and mother Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Bedwell in the city this week. ___ H.M. Handberry of Birmingham, is spending the week in Heflin with his brother- in-law, S.C. Zaner. Mr. Handberry was a passenger on the Alabama Mineral train that was wrecked near Blocton some time ago. His wife and two children were on board the train with him and were killed. ____ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, January 28, 1897 LOCAL NEWS J.S. Bartlett of Oxford spent Monday in Heflin. Joe was a citizen of Heflin for a number of years and his friends are always glad to see him in the city. ___ Mr. Larkin Dewberry has lately married Miss Fannie Fincher. ___ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, February 18, 1897 LOCAL NEWS Miss Lula Fowler of Hightower visited friends in Heflin last weekend. __ J.S. and C.F. Carruth left Heflin Wednesday morning for Johnson County, Texas where they will make their home. ___ JOSHUA H. HARLAN DIES - - Died at the home of his mother Mrs. Mora Harlan, near Beesons MIlls on Friday morning, February 12th of brain fever, Joshua H. Harlan. The deceased was about 28 years of age, a kind and helpful son. He was left an orphan at an early age and while only a boy, took charge of the farm and manged it's affairs better than most. He was loved by all who knew him, his integrity was unquestioned and his every day life above reproach. While he had never attached himself to any church he was so dutiful to his mother, whom he loved and honored, so kind to his neighbors and so much esteemed that all who knew him join in saying that he was a good young man. All that was mortal to him was laid to repose amid the tears of sorrowing friends at the Blake burying ground last Saturday. ____ W.M. Adams, the photographer will be in Heflin until Saturday night.
