Hood, formerly of Carrollton, GA., has opened up a barber shop in this city drug store building on Ross street. __ The case of Joe Burton who was convicted of the murder of Jethro Evans and sentenced to five years in the penitentiary has been granted a new trial by the supreme court and is out on $1500. bail. __ The report that J.E. Campbell was put in jail at Anniston was a mistake. Mr. Campbell was arrested at an illicit distillery but was there looking for some one to work for him on the farm and was not in any way connected with the distillery. ___ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, July 12, 1897 Mr. and Mrs. Homer Furr of Villa Rica, GA are visiting the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Simmons one mile south of town. ___ The Grand Jury found a bill against Charlie Strong, col., for carrying a concealed pistol. He was arrested this morning by Constable Henry and taken to Edwardsville and lodged in jail. ___ Austin Stricklen returned Sunday evening from the Lone Star State where he visited his brothers, Elza and Arthur Stricklen for a month. He came home via Nashville where he spent a week seeing the sights of Tennessee Cent. esposition. Austin says he was near the line of Mexico but did not cross for fear some fair senorita would be captivated by him and take him to her adobe hut on the banks of the Rio Grande and keep him prisoner there during the remainder of his natural life. ___ M.J. Evans, one of Cleburne's best farmers, brought in a wagon load of watermelons on Tuesday morning, the first of the season. ___ NEWSPAPER issue of Thursday, July 29, 1897 LOCAL NEWS J.T. Black and family are visiting relatives near Chulafinnee. __ Henry Roop, of Roopville, GA, is visiting W.J. Henry and family in the city. __ Mrs. B.M. Bayol and children of Norcross, GA, visited the family of W.G. Milligan in the city this week. __ J. W. Oden who has been making Heflin his home for the past six months left Wednesday for Childersburg. __ Mrs. R.B. Baird and son Jerome left Monday for Piedmont, Ala., where they will visit Mrs. Baird's parents for a month. ___ Born, to Mr. and Mrs. M.C. Danforth last Thursday, an 11 pound boy. Born to Mr. and Mrs. W.O. Black last Sunday a fine girl. Born to Mr. and Mrs. I.E.
