Morris of Riverside was visiting in our city this week. __ C.F. Carruth arrived in Heflin this morning from Texas; he will return on Monday. ___ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, August 19, 1897 WILDWOOD Community News Mrs. Allie Fowler and daughter of Troy, Mississippi, who have been visiting relatives at this place for several weeks returned home last Saturday. ___ LOCAL NEWS T.W. Powell went up to Bremen last week. __ Mrs. Atkins of Cullman is visiting her son J.M. Atkins in the city. __ T.I. Landers and wife are visiting relatives in Randolph county this week. __ Yesterday at J.R. Moore's distillery, Hamilton Brannon, a thirteen year old son of John Brannon had the misfortune to have his left arm badly crushed by falling on the fruit crusher. Drs. Thomason and Neal amputated the arm above the elbow and he is doing as well as could be expected. __ The Confederate Veterans of this county are meeting at Edwardsville on Saturday August 28th. ___ Born, to Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Kitchens last Saturday, a large boy. ___ Lee McGonegal, foreman of the Stonehill copper mines is in the city. ___ C.E. James of Chattanooga and D.W. Vaughan are out in the mineral section today. ___ Eugene Lee of Wildwood, brought the editor a fine 42 pound watermelon last Monday. The editor was away but the "devil" wasn't, and he thanks Mr. Lee for the finest melon of the season. ___ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, August 26, 1897 LOCAL NEWS Miss Alice Owens is visiting relatives in Cedartown, GA this week. ___ Miss Roena Stephenson has returned home from a month visit to relatives on Sand Mountain. __ Col. R.E. Merrill has returned from a months visit to Tennessee where he went for his health. ___ We regret to learn of the death of Miss Cora, the 17 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T.R. Land of Belltown. Another daughter is dangerously ill of the same disease.
