Lowery, once a citizen of Cleburne but now living on Sand Mountain is visiting friends near town. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, November 18, 1897 Elijah Edwards who lives in Cleburne and who has been wanted for some time on a charge of illicit distilling, was arrested near Edwardsville yesterday and will come up for trial before Commissioner Randolph this morning. Edwards arrest was brought about in a nanner which a little later on may cause quite a sensation. On yesterday morning two of Edwards' friends went to Commissioner Randolph and gave him to understand that it was very much desired that such steps be taken as would shield Edwards from any punishment from the warrent against him. The manner in which they approached Commissioner Randolph was not appreciated by him and they understood it and got on their horses from the stable and started for Cleburne. Messrs. A.C. Sorrells and D.R. Burgess were confident that Edwards' friends had been sent there by him and they they would return at once and report to him his danger of arrest. So they got a team and followed; and as they expected, were led to Edwards. He was at his home about four miles south of Edwardsville and directly after his friends walked in to see him they were followed by Messrs. Sorrells and Burgess who arrested Edwards and brought him to Anniston for trial.
