Dunston of this place, died at the home of her son, J.C. Dunston near Beasons Mills yesterday morning and was buried at Cedar Creek yesterday afternoon. Mrs. Dunston had been in bad health for several months and her death was not unexpected. The sympathy of the people is extended to the family of the deceased. __ J.B. Dunston came up yesterday morning from Birmingham to attend the burial of his mother. He will remain in the city until Monday. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Saturday, September 9, 1899 Mr. Will Little of Atlanta spent Sunday in the city with friends. __ R.J. Owens has returned to Pensacola, Fla., after spending a week with relatives in this city. __ Miss Ada Weathers has returned to her home in Anniston after a ten days stay with friends in Heflin. __ J.W. Kitchens, Deputy Collector of Revenue with headquarters in Roanoke was in the city this week. __ Heflin received her first bale of cotton on Monday. It was brought in by W.R. Ford of Hightower and was purchased by Morgan and Perryman. __ The road between Bell Town and Denman's Bridge has been put in good condition for travel. J.S. Carruth with a force of hands has been grading and straightening the road this week. __ DIED - - Mrs. Sarah Campbell, wife of J.M. Campbell of Chulafinnee, died at her home in that place Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock and was buried at Bethlehem churchyard yesterday afternoon. Mrs. Campbell was about 47 years old and leaves and husband and three children to mourn her death. ___ NEWSPAPER Issue of Saturday, September 16, 1899 W.O. Black of Oxanna spent Sunday with his parents near town. __ C. B. Ragsdale, one of Anniston's efficient policemen was in the city today. __ J.R.Moore is confined to his bed with an attack of billious fever. __ Mrs. W.G. Milligan visited relatives in Chocoloccoo this week. __ Miss Nonia Bedwell left this morning for Ackerman,Miss., where she will visit her sister for several weeks. __ Mr.and Mrs. R.A. Simpson of East Lake, after spending several days in the city with their son, Dr. J.L. Simpson, returned home Wednesday morning. __ Mr. M. L. Snow of this city has, probably, the oldest coat in use in the state. It is old fashioned broadcloth and Mr. Snow has been wearing it on special occasions for the past forty years, and it is yet in fairly good condition. ___ NEWSPAPER issue of Saturday, September 23, 1899 J.T. Beason of Beasons Mills who has been dangerously sick with typhoid fever for over a month is slowly recovering. ___ Miss Mary Riddle of Randolph county is visiting her Aunt, Mrs. T.H. Shackleford in the city. ___ Rev. W.P. Weston has moved his family to Mt. Zion, GA where he has charge of a school. __ Mrs. R.W. Willis of Jackson, Tenn., visited the family of G.B. Payne in the city this week. __ George Ligon and Will Noel, both colored, became involved in a difficulty at a negro supper in east Heflin on Thursday night. Ligon was shot in the right hip. The wound will not likely prove fatal. __ DIED - - Mr. W.T. Webb died of typhoid fever at his home near Chulafinnee on Thursday and was buried at Bethleham churchyard yesterday afternoon. He leaves a wife and children to mourn his death. Mr. Webb was a good citizen and his death is deeply deplored. ___ NEWSPAPER Notice of Saturday, September 30, 1899 DIED - - Mrs. G.W. Watson of Oswalt, died at the home of her husband last Thursday and was buried yesterday. The sympathy of the people is tendered the bereaved family. ___ DIED - - Howard Neal, a son of Dr. and Mrs. W.A. Neal, formerly of Heflin, but now of Vicks, Ala., died at their home at that place on Wednesday morning.
