Blake on the 5th of December 1900 and recorded December 15, 1900 in mortgage record Volume I-X page 356, I will proceed to sell to the highest bidder for cash at the court house in Edwardsville, Ala., on Monday the 25th day of January 1904, between the legal hours of sale, the following described real estate, to wit: The SE 1/4 of NW 1/4 except one half acre in south west corner of said lot; and the NE 1/4 of SW 1/4 and N 1/2 of SE 1/4 of SW 1/4 all in section 1, township 17, range 10 in Cleburne County, Alabama. This January 8th, 1904. W.G. Milligan, Mortgagee ___ DIED - - A. W. Little died suddenly at his home near Oakfuskee in this county last Monday. He was 80 years old. __ J. W. Harlan had the misfortune to lose his dwelling and nearly all of his household goods by fire this week. Mr. Harlan is one of the best farmers in the Beason Mills community and while the loss is severe he will overcome it with his energy. ___ DIED - - Miss Lula Haley, daughter of A.J. and Sarah M. Haley died December 24, 1903 at the home of her parents. She was born August 30th, 1876 and died after an illness of six days, of pneumonia. ____ NEWSPAPER issue of Saturday, January 16, 1904 W. S. Pruett, after spending several weeks in Cleburne county visiting friends, has returned to his home at Hico, Texas. ___ Mrs. W.M. Harris who has been very sick for several days with measles is improving. __ D.M. Kaylor of Lecta, formerly county commissioner of this county, left Heflin Thursday evening with his family for Texas where they will reside in the future. Mr. Kaylor is a good citizen and we are sorry he decided to make his home elsewhere but hope the move will be profitable for him. ___ NEWSPAPER Issue of Saturday, January 23, 1904 DIED - - J.P. West, a nephew of R.C. West of this city, died of pneumonia at Belltown last Saturday evening and was buried in the Heflin Cemetery on Sunday afternoon. He was 17 years old. The bereaved relatives have the sympatny of friends in their sorrow. ___ MARRIED - - Miss Beatrice Henry and Mr. Wiley T. Chappel of Brushey, Miss., were married at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Henry of this city, Thursday evening and left immediately for their home in Mississippi. Rev. T.A. Kerr performed the ceremony. Miss Beatrice Henry is the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Henry and one of Heflin's sweetest young women and her many friends congratulate Mr. Chappel on having won her for a life companion. Mr. Chappel, formerly of this place, is a young man of sterling worth and is worthy of her whom he has gained for a helpmate. The New Era joins the numerous friends of the happy couple in wishing them a long and happy life. ____ J.B. Dunston of Jasper, Ala., spent Thursday in Heflin arranging for the erection of a residence here. The house will be built on the property on Almon street and will contain six rooms. He will build the residence for renting. ___ NEWSPAPER Issue of Saturday, January 30, 1904 LEGAL NOTICE - - Administrator's Settlement State of Alabama, Cleburne County Probate Court January 25, 1904 In the matter of the estate of C.B. Lowery, deceased. This day came T.H. Howle, administrator of the estate of said deceased and filed his account, vouchers, evidence, and statement for final settlement of said administration. It is ordered that the 17th day of February 1904 be appointed a day on which to make such settlement, at which time all persons interested can appear and contest the said settlement if they think proper. WItness my and this 25th day of January 1904. A.A. Hurst, Judge of Probate ______ ONE KILLED, ANOTHER WOUNDED T.A. Hightower was killed by Milliard Alsabrook and Alsabrook was seriously wounded by Hightower in a shooting affray at Borden Springs in this county on Tuesday night. The difficulty occurred about some trivial affair. Both men were drinking, it was stated.
