W. Carden captured two alleged distillers who have been wanted for some time by the United States courts. The men arrested were John Floyd and Jim Floyd, father and son, of Cleburne County. For some days past the deputy marshall has endeavored to capture these men and was always unsuccessful, so recently while in the neighborhood of their home he left subpoenas for them to appear in another case in Commissioner Randolph's court, which they did, and they were immediately placed under arrest, charged with owning and operating a distillery. ____ CARD OF THANKS While our hearts are filled with sadness over the death of our precious babe Green, we feel gld and rejoice at the thought of having friends and to those who so kindly and willingly assited us while here on this sad mission, our prayers and benedictions go out to them. Very truly, Mr. and Mrs. J.F Wilder, Epps, Mississippi ___ DIED - - K. Mathews, local doncuctor on the Southern railway was killed by his train at Fruithurst on Tuesday morning. The accident occurred while switching cars and our information is that he, in order to gain time and leave Fruithurst, stepped upon the pilot of the engine to ride up the station to get orders and while there his feet slipped and in fell in front of the moving train thereby meeting his untimely death. Mr. Mathews had been transferred from the West End to the East End and had just a few days previous to his death, moved to Heflin. He leaves a wife to mourn his loss. ___ NEWSPAPER issue of Saturday, June 17, 1905 W.T. Chappel of Crottstown, Miss., is in Heflin this week. __ J.J. Jenkins of Pendlesonville, Texas is in Heflin visiting his sick father, Dr. W.O. Jenkins. __ MARRIED - - W.B. Foster, station agent at Edwardsville, and Miss Zetha Ried, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. R.T. Ried, were married at the home of the bride's parents last Sunday morning. Success to them through life. __ Arthur Harper who has been at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Evans with the fever, has gone to his father's home east of town. __ Mrs. D.C. Mims is in Birmingham this week visiting her sister. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Saturday, June 24, 1905 SENTENCED TO HANG In the criminal court on Thursday, Wesley Hale a negro charged with the murder of Edward G. Almon, a young brakeman on the Louisville and Nashville railroad at Oxmoor several months ago, was tried and convicted, his punishment being fixed at death. ___ J.T. Morrison of Bernice was in town on Thursday. __ Miss Etta Massell of Atlanta, GA is visiting her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. M. Rutenberg. __ Miss Annie Cannady of Tallapoosa, GA is in Heflin this week the guest of Miss Mae Davis. __ Russell Owens of Pensacola, Florida is in Heflin this week with his father, B.F.
