His home was a preachers home. As a father, he was kind, as a husband loving, as a citizen loyal, and as a church member he will be greatly missed. Therefore be it resolved, that we extend as a Confederacy our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved wife and children and that a copy of these minutes and resolutions be furnished to the family and to local papers for publication. McKenzie was in Heflin on Wednesday closing out the sale of his real estate and advertising his personal property, the sale of which will take place at his residence the 15th of November. Mr. McKenzie and family will after the sale, move to Oklahoma to make their future home. ___ J.F. Pirkle of Double Springs, a former citizen of his county who lived near Bell Mills, was in Heflin yesterday. __ T.M. Haywood was in the city this week. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Saturday, October 28, 1905 LEGAL NOTICE - - Administrator's Settlement Notice State of Alabama, Cleburne County Probate Court Sept 23rd 1905 In the matter of the estate of Wm. Howell, deceased; This day came J.L. Roberts and J.S. Howell, executors of the estate of said deceased, and filed their accounts, vouchers, evidences and statement for a partial settlement of their said administration. It is ordered that the 16th day of October 1905 be appointed a day on which to make such settlement at which time all persons interested can appear and contest the said settlement if they think proper. Carruth, Judge of Probate ___ Mrs. Tumlin and sister Miss Sigman spent Saturday in Tallapoosa. __ Lawyer Will Hamrick of Carrollton, GA was in town on Tuesday. Mr. Hamrick represented some of the negroes charged with stealing whiskey from a railroad car in Heflin. __ W.C. and F.L. McMahan were called to the bedside of their father who is quite sick, on Tuesday. __ W.J. Camp of Texas was in the city on Wednesday. __ Edwardsville is having an epidemic of the mumps. __ Last Tuesday, Judge W.A. Porter of Heflin held court in Edwardsville at the preliminary trial of Marvin Chatfield, Chris Burrows and Julia Ann Ross charged with burglary of a railroad car. A large number of witnesses from Heflin were present attending the trial. Chris Burrows, Marvin Chatfield and Julia Ann Ross were all required to give bond to wait the action of the grand jury. The other cases against the Southern defendants charged with the same crime were continued until next Monday. __ NOTICE FOR PUBLICATION Department of Interior, Land Office at Montgomery, Ala October 16, 1905 Notice is hereby given that the following named settler has filed notice of his intention to make final proof in support of his homestead claim and that said proof will be made before the Register of Chancery Court at Edwardsville on November 16, 1905, viz: John W. Owen, Homestead Entry No. 33078 for the southeast quarter of the southwest quarter of section 21, township 14 south of range 11 east, Cleburne County, Ala. He names the following witnesses to prove his continuous residence upon and cultivation of said land, viz: Mollie Cheatwood, Robert Cheatwood, Samuel A. Williams, Oliver Owen, all of Fruithurst, Alabama.
