Cowart at her home near Vinemount. Mrs. Cowart is the mother of G.F. Hill of Heflin. ____ Federal and county officers destroyed eight wildcat still outfits in a day and a half last week and "didn't half try." The raids were made in the northeast section of the county where the officers, both federal and county, had been advised that operations were going at full blast. Officer Ben Crumpton went to a certain point and waited, so did Sheriff Jackson with Deputies Bennett and Prestridge, neither of the two squads dreaming that the other was in the settlement. At the crack of day the sheriff's force closed in and captured the three alleged operators and commenced destroying the outfit. The great noise was the signal for Mr. Crumpton's move, and running in, caught the sheriff hard down at work at the still, destroying the plant that each had "sit up" with for hours. The joke is about fifty-fifty, even if our sheriff was caught "dipping beer" as Ben puts it. The three men captured were two Bomans said to be brothers and a man by the name of Prichard. ____ Lee Barnes, private secretary to Congressman Allgood, was called to Albertville on Sunday to be at the bedside of his brother, Will Barnes who is desperately sick.
