One wagon wheel was smashed, both mules were considerably skinned up and Mr. Glasgow miraculously escaping with a painful cut on the hand. The boy acknowledged to having no brakes it is said, which was evidently the case, judging by the report of those who witnessed the truck's wild run down the hill just before reaching the spot where the wagon and team were hit. ________ Officer Ben H. Crumpton with Jim Haywood and Tom Prestridge, visited the Arbacoochee section and the officers found a 100 gallon copper outfit that had been pulled out of hiding from the brush not far away. The outfit was chopped up and hauled in by the raiders. ____ TEAGUE's MILL News "Uncle" Bill Sears who has been quite sick for some time is improving. __ Mrs. Belle Lambert and little son have been quite sick but are improving. ___ Mrs. Mattie Blake is quite sick at this writing. ___ LOCAL NEWS MRS. HAND PASSES AWAY The death angel visited the home of J.W. Hand and carried away his beloved mother, June 9th. Mrs. Hand was 86 years , 6 months and 9 days old. She leaves three sons and one daughter, twelve grandchildren, five great grandchildren and many friends to mourn her death. Mrs. Hand was well known to many of our people and her death will carry profound grief to all. Mrs. Hand was a member of Smyrna Church for 70 years. She is gone but not forgotten. We say to them that death is the gate that opens out of the earth toward the home eternal in heaven. If we lose them here it is gain there. If we mourn they rejoice, if we hang our harps on the willows, they tune theirs in the eternal orchestra above rejoicing that we shall soon be with them. A friend. _____ MARRIED - - Mr. Stephens Wade of Lineville and Miss Roxie Beason, of Heflin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Beason, were joined in the holy bonds of matrimony on Sunday at the home of Judge A.H. Glasgow, that gentleman officiating. _____ Mr. W.W. Little, living in south Cleburne, celebrated his 73rd birthday on Sunday by giving a sumptuous dinner to Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Robertson and Mr. and Mrs. P.F. Currie. May this good man enjoy many more just such happy occasions. ____ Mr. and Mrs. H.O. McDonald and daughter have returned home after an extended visit to Chattanooga. __ Mrs. Paul Harper, who has been on an extended visit to her brother, T.J. Wager at Athens, Texas, is spending awhile in Heflin with her brothers, Geo. W. and J.J. Wager, before returning to her home at College Park, GA. ____ "Uncle" Obe Brown was here from Edwardsville on Saturday, and is now just recovering from an operation and a long siege in a hospital. Mr. Brown is nearing his 79th year and his recent severe illness left him in a weakened condition. ____ Mrs. S.D. Boyd and daughter Miss Macy Boyd, of Henderson, Texas, arrived in Heflin a few days ago and are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Boyd of this place and other relatives in Cleburne. Mrs. Boyd, with her husband, moved from Cleburne county 24 years ago, this being her first visit back to the old home during that time. _____ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, June 25, 1925 DEATH OF MRS. COX The many friends of Melvin Cox, who resides in the Redlands, deeply sympathize with him in the death of his wife which occurred Wednesday night of last week. The remains were laid to rest in the Hurricane cemetery the following day, a large crowd being present at the burial services. _____ MRS. WALKER SICK Mrs. Silvan Walker of Lecta was carried through Heflin Saturday to Anniston for examination prepatory for an operation. She has undergone several operations during the past year and her many friends hope for her future good health. Mrs. Walker is a daughter of M.F. White of Lecta and a sister of Mrs. Arthur Myers of Heflin. ___ Four stills, ten gallons of whiskey, 700 gallons of beer and three men, Euell Roberts, Ellis Roberts and Wilson Howell were captured in Cleburne county last week by Sheriff Jackson, State Officers Lynch and Draper and Federal Officer Roberts. The men captured were carried to Anniston and after a hearing before Commissioner H.H. Evans, their bonds were set at $500. each. Russell and Albert Abercrumbie of Bowdon are in Calhoun county jail having failed to make bond after a hearing before Commissioner Evans Saturday afternoon, on a charge of possessing whiskey and being connected with a still which was located near their home. Before U.S. Commisioner H.H. Evans in Anniston the boys were found not guilty of being affiliated with the still but were held for the federal court on $300. bond each. _______ "Aunt" Jane Nunnelly of Cullman, is spending a few days with her granddaughter, Mrs. Alf Turner. Aunt Jane is well preserved at the age of 90 and her friends and relatives will be interested to learn that she will be present this year at the Jane Nunnelly Memorial Education Rally which is held annually in August. ___ The Cleburne News learns with regret that Mr. and Mrs. Martin Harris will move to Bessemer within a short time. They have been residents of Heflin for more than 25 years and will be greatly missed by the people of the town. It is understood that Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Wheeler will occupy the Harris home. ___ PINHOOK News Joe Williams and family of Texas were the guests of R.K. Badgett last Thursday. __ LOCAL NEWS Earl Stone is reported to be quite sick at his home on Oxford street. __ Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Chandler of Tallapoosa spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. C.L. Chandler. __ Mrs. Fannie Rooks of Brighton is visiting in and around Cedar Creek and Arbacoochee. __ Ralp Bean and Charlie Hudson will leave Sunday for Pensacola, Fla., where they will enter the citizens' military training camp. they will be away about five weeks. ____ Mrs. F.W. Landers has had as her guests, her daughters, Mrs. J.M. Garlington of Ensley and Mrs. J.V.
