Upchurch of Wildwood was in the city this week. __ W.M. Skinner of Corbet paid us a pleasant visit this week. __ J. Turley and son were pleasant visitors to the New Era office this week. __ J.H. Crumpton and M.F. White were in the city yesterday. __ Isaac Blake of Bernice was here this week and renewed his subscription. __ Mrs. R. Lake and family and Richard Awtrey family have removed to Birmingham. The house vacated by them is now occupied by J.C. Thornton and family. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Saturday, February 10, 1906 PERSONAL & LOCAL NEWS Mrs. J.B. Upshaw and children are visiting Mr. and Mrs. W.M. Upshaw. __ Rev. M.G. Milligan left last week for Ocalo, Fla., where he will spend the remainder of the winter. __ Laborn Holmes has returned from Birmingham where he has been to see his sick brother. __ Enoch Middlebrooks of near Beason Mills was a Heflin visitor last weekend. __ Tim Disheroon we are informed, is lying at the point of death at his home near Micaville. ___ B.A. Caldwell of Hico, Texas was in Heflin this week, the guest of his sister, Mrs. J.T. Blake, deceased This day came W.M. Blake, administrator of the estate of J.H. Blake, deceased and filed in court his account and vouchers for a final settlement of said estate; and the 5th day of March 1906 having been appointed by the court for examining, auditing and stating the same, notice is hereby given to all interested parties to appear and contest the same if they think proper. A.E. Carruth, Judge of Probate ______ LOCAL & PERSONAL News We are glad to report that Mrs. J.D. Duke who has been dangerously ill for several days is improving. ___ Mrs. W.E. Garner who has been quite sick for some time is much improved. __ Mr. W.G. Norton, a prominent citizen, Mason, Confederate soldier, an admirable specimen of religion, was buried with Masonic honors at Harmony Baptist Church the 13th. Bro. Scott delivered the funeral oration to a large congregation of Masons, friends and relatives. Mr. Norton will be greatly missed by the community, his lodge, and especially his wife and children who mourn his loss. He carried a severe bullet wound received in the war that doubtless hastened his death by paralysis. ______ CARD OF THANKS We tender our hearty and sincere thanks to our neighbors and friends who have so kindly and faithfully aided and assisted us during the sickness in our families. Jackson of Edwardsville was here this week visiting her daughter, Mrs. L.E. Adams. ___ "Uncle" William McMahan, an honored citizen of Hopewell, paid us a visit yesterday. ___ Mr. R.P. Tucker was married the 15th inst., to Miss Winnie Floy. Mr. and Mrs. R.P. Tucker left for Talladega on Wednesday, where they plan to reside, after visiting the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.W.
