ZANER MEETS DEATH ON ENGINE; Former Cleburne County Boy Killed A special from Fort Worth, Texas, February 13th, to the Dallas Morning News, reads: E.M. Zaner, a brakeman in the employ of the Texas and Pacific Railway, on the run between this city and Longview was instantly killed at 6:50 this morning by a locomotive at the intersection of the Houston and Texas Central and Texas and Pacific tracks, in the Texas and Pacific yards. Zaner was riding on the pilot at the time of the accident and his head was almost severed from his body. According to the evidence gathered by Justice Charles T. Rowland who held the inquest, road engine No. 337 was being brought out to couple onto the train, with Zaner riding on the pilot. At the crossing the heavy rains had made the roadbed very soft so that the weight of the engine caused the track to sink into the mud until the pilot caught against the rail of the crossing track. this force the pilot downward, weding it so solidly that it was broken and bent against the engine. Zaner was thrown off the pilot in front of the engine and killed. Zaner was 26 years old and a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen. The body will be sent to Alabama tomorrow morning for interment. The deceased has a brother residing in Longview, but his father lives in Alabama. ____ LOCAL & PERSONAL News R.L.
