Buck Owen was born and reared near Edwardsville where he has lived all of his life. He was well known among the old Sacred Harp singers of the county among whom he was identified as a great singer for many years. He was a true blue democrat and loved the principles of his party and wherever duty called there he was ever ready to do his duty as he saw it. We tender the the bereaved family our sincere sympathy. ____ NEWSPAPER Issue of Saturday, July 14, 1906 CHARLIE KEMP KILLED BY LIGHTNING One of the saddest deaths known in Cleburne County occurred last Saturday when in the midst of a terrific electrical storm, Charlie Kemp was struck and instantly killed by lightning near his home four miles south of Heflin. He was at work in the field and the same stroke killed his mule. Young Kemp was the son of Rev. C.D. Kemp who is one of the county's best citizens and who has the deep sympathy of a host of friends. Young Kemp was highly respected by all who knew him and his sad death cast a pall of sorrow over the community in which he lived. He was a member of the Antioch Baptist church; a school teacher by profession, and had the good will and respect of all who knew him. His pleasant manners gained friends everywhere he went. A large crowd of sympathizing friends attended the funeral to pay the last respects to their friend and brother. The occasion was made doubly sad because they were paying the last tribute of respect to the one who had been taken away in the bloom of youth with bright prospects for a long and useful career before him. _______ LOCAL & PERSONAL NEWS E.E.
