She was converted and joined the Missionary Baptist Church in 1901. After her conversion she was a living example of the truth of the religion of her savior, by walking upright before her master, her life was made in a high decree conspicuous by her faithfulness to the church vows that she had taken, she deomonstrated the faith that was in her. On the 23rd day of January 1907 she was united in the holy bonds of matrimony to J.H. Chaney who was devoted to her in an unusual degree. She, as a wife, was as devoted to her husband as she was in a spiritual sense to her savior. Their married life, that only a few months ago held the promise of a long, blissful and useful one was destined in the very midst their joy to end in the deepest sorrow. At their home in Woodlawn, where many friends had been made, the call of the distressed brought to her bedside the loved ones of her childhoood home and these with the love of the husband, the skill of physicians and the earnest prayers of loved ones could not stay the hand of death. For several long weeks she was an intense sufferer, but was never heard to complain. Oh, the sorrow that this tragedy of death has brought to so many fond hearts, whose love of her memory will ever live. We can but say: "When blooming youth is snatched away by death's restless hand, our hearts the mournful tributes pay, which pity must demand." But in a far better land than this those who know and love her will greet her again, where all tears are wiped away and there will be no more parting or sorrow there. Sleep in peace, god hath called thee home. A friend. _________ ORDER OF PUBLICATION State of Alabama, Cleburne County Chancery Court, Tenth District, Northeastern Division No. 347 Johm Mims, Complaintant vs. Hettie Mims, Defendant In this cause it is made to appear to the Register by the affidavit on file of W.B. " ___ NEWSPAPER Issue of Saturday, January 25, 1908 LETTER FROM ALBERT L. OWENS, FROM DENNIS, MISSISSIPPI Dear Editor of the New Era, I am sitting in the corner today amusing myself reading your paper. I am feeling badly because the grippe has got me, and too, the weather is bad, raining, then snowing and winding up with sleet. I told my wife yesterday that reading my old home paper is good tonic for me, to read of who comes and goes and what happens in general. News is scarce in these parts, especially for one who don't perawlinate round more than I. We are elated over the new railroad that passes within a short distance of me and there are three new towns building along the line within easy reach. Womha is in the lead, being half way betwen Red Bay and Betmont. It is destined to become a good town quick. Several have opened up big lines of goods and others will as soon as houses can be built. But this is not what I intended to write about. I hope you will pardon me if I compliment your paper a little to your face. I am impressed with the business like way in which your paper is being conducted. I think I can see for you and your paper a bright future. A good live newspaper in a town is a beneficiary of it's business interest and valuable in developing the town and in championing just causes of the people. I am glad to see the support your town and county is giving the New Era and I think you are doing a good work in pulling for Heflin and its enterprises, whoop up your town and county, in doing so, the New Era will join freiends that will always be loyal to it's policies in the right. JONES Hall of Ranburne Lodge No. 652 A.F. and A. M.; Ranburne, Ala. Jan. 18, 1908 We, the committee appointed to draft resolutions on the death of Bro. Julian M. Jones, submit the following: In as much as it pleased almighty god in his wisdom and providence to take from among us our dearly beloved brother, who, on the 15th day of January 1908, "from his nerveless grasp forever dropped the working tools of life" and entered upon his reward; therefore be it resolved, first, that while sorrowing at this fresh summons of the Tyler, death, we bow in humble submission to the will of the great architect of the universe, and indulge in the hope that when our brothers' work was called to apssed the test of an unerring square, it was found well formed, true and trusty; a pefect Ashler worthy a a place in the temple above, whose maker and builder is god; and that we will stroke to emulate his virtues and profit by them. Second, that we bear testimony in his memorial to generations to come after us of the fidelity and honor of our deceased brother as a Master Mason. As an officer of our Lodge, he was ever faithful, as a county officer he was without stain, a citizen without guile or reproach, a kind and affectionate husband, a loving and indulgent father, a good and accomodating neighbor, charitable and constant friend, an honest, honorable and progressive citizen. Third, that with sorrowful hearts, we recommend that this tribute to our esteemed brother's memory be spread upon our minutes, that a copy be transmitted to the widow and children, with assurance of our sympathy and affection in this dark hour of their bereavement, trusting it may draw their hearts to Him, who is our only refuge.
