ISABELLA BRANNON Mrs. Isabella Brannon was born Oct. 1, 1832 and died July 11, 1908, aged 75 years, 9 months and 10 days. Sister Brannon was converted at the age of 16 and joined the Methodist Church and lived a consistent christian life. She was married to A.G. Brannon at the age of 20. To this happy union were born nine children, four of whom are living, viz: Willis, Malcus, & Arthur Brannon and Mrs. L.V. Evans. She had lived with her daughter since 1902 until a few days before her death when she had gone to her son Willis, on a visit where she was stricken with paralysis and in the midst of the warmest friends, with every comfort that maens and loving hearts could bestow, she quietly passed away. Sister Brannon was an affectionate companion, mother and friend. Those that knew her best loved her most. That christian like spirit that ever characterized her life should be emulated by those with whom she was associated. Our loss in her eternal gain. The sorrowing listeners could not hear the sound, but the angels heard it with joy profound. As its mighty power the gates did unfold, the gates of pearl that guarded the streets of gold. And through the open portals entered in, another soul redeemed from death and sin. The city's shining towers we could not see, with our dim earthly vision, for death the silent warder, keeps the key, that opens the gates to heaven. James M. G.A.H. ________ NEWSPAPER issue of Friday, September 26, 1908 WILL CHANDLER TRIED FOR KILLING WILL SMITH AT BORDEN SPRINGS Will Chandler was placed on trial here Wednesday evening for the killing of Will Smith, the famous Bell Tree desperado, which occured at Borden Springs. The trial closed Friday afternoon. The evidence in the case showed that Chandler acted as would any other man under similar circumstances, but according the the law he was guilty of either murder in the second degree or manslaughter and the jury was so charged by Judge Pelham. The jury after having been out only a few moments, brought in a verdict of manslaughter and placed his sentence at one year in the penitentiary. Within thirty minutes after the jury rendered it's verdict, all the jurors, the solicitor and the judge had signed the petition asking the governor to grant him a pardon and had it not been for the technicalities of the law, all would have favored giving him his freedom. ________ Dutch Wheeler was tried here Wednesday for the killing of Frank Goodwin which occurred last March at Borden Springs, and was acquitted.
