Johnson was on our streets a few days ago. __ Edward Beason was here this week. __ J.A. Loveless of Arbacoochee was in town recently. __ J.F. Cox of R.F.D. No. 5 was in town Saturday. __ Uncle Zed Robison of Fruithurst was here this week. __ Mrs. A.J. Adams is in Depoint, Ind., at the bedside of her father who is very ill. __ Mrs. R.A. Smith and children are visiting relatives in Tallapoosa this week. __ Mrs. J.P. Bedwell of Jemison, Ala., was here last week looking after some business. __ J.W. Kelly and family of near Chulafinnee left this week for Onionto, Ala., where they will reside in the future. __ Joe H. Kerr who has been with the Villa Rica Starr for quite awhile is again foreman in the New Era office. Joe has many friends in Heflin who are glad to have him back. __ Miss Minnie Cheatwood of DeArmanville visited her sister, Mrs. H.D. Merrill last week. __ Mrs. Mary A. Striplin and Miss Emma Lou SLaughter of Alberville are visiting Mrs. W.A. Hubbard. __ H.F. Seymore and family left Sunday night for New York, where they will reside in the future. __ W.S. Jones, who has been ill for several days was carried to Atlanta Wednesday night to be operated on for appendicitis. __ UNION HILL News Mr. and Mrs. W.M. Blake visited his brother in Randolph county on Sunday. __ R.A. Bonner made a business trip to Heflin last Saturday. Arthur Harper spent a few days at his place last week. ______ NOTICE OF APPOINTMENT OF ADMINISTRATOR State of Alabama, Cleburne County Probate Court Letters of administration on the estate of Mrs. E.J. Mohon, deceased, having been granted on the 2nd day of December 1908 to the undersigned, by the Hon. A.E. Owens of Oklahoma City is here on a vacation and will be here until after the holidays. __ BEASON's MILL News Corn shucking and cotton picking are the order of the day. Bascom Thrash and Miss Emeline Howle were married last Sunday and we all wish them much joy and a long and happy life. Mrs. L.B. Dean visited her brother Fred Johnson last Friday. Gus Green and wife are visiting her mother, Mrs. F.W. Kent. _______ NEWSPAPER Issue of Saturday, December 19, 1908 LOCAL & PERSONAL News Uncle Burl Messer was in town attending to business Wednesday. __ J.H. Crumpton of Hightower was on our streets this week. __ J.W. Thompson of south Cleburne was in Heflin Wednesday. __ L.D. Reid and little sons Frank and Hugh were in Anniston the first of the week. __ Uncle Buck Groover is spending a few days with his daughter, Mrs. W.C. McMahan in our city. __ J.W. Armstrong was in town Thursday and paid his subscripton to the New Era. __ L.F. Farlow of Hopewell attended to business in town Tuesday and Wednesday. __ I.L. Ballew of Villa Rica, GA spent a day or two in our city this week. __ R.L. Evans and family left last Monday for Hugo, Oklahoma where they will reside in the future. Mr. Evans is one of Cleburne's best citizens and we wish him much success in the West. ___ Mrs. Ben Chase, who after an illness of several months, died at her home on the 9th and was buried at New Harmony on the 10th. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. C.C. O'Neal. The New Era joins the many friends of Mr. Chase and the children in the loss of the wife and mother. We would say to them look unto him who has promised to be with us when trials and troubles come. _______ NEWSPAPER issue of Saturday, December 26, 1908 LOCAL & PERSONAL News James C. Garner of Jonesburro, LA, arrived in Heflin on Wednesday. Mr. Garner is well known in Cleburne, having lived here a number of years. He has many friends will be glad to see him. ___ C.C. Gaines and wife were in Heflin on Tuesday. __ P.B. Smith of Carrollton, GA was in town this week. __ Mrs. Jacinth Carruth of Epps, Miss., is visiting her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Henry. __ Major Kaylor of Texas passed through Heflin on Tuesday enroute to Bell Mills to visit his son, T.J. Kaylor and other relatives. __ R.R. Ray of Gadsden, passed through Heflin Tuesday enroute to Kemps Creek to visit relatives. __ OAKFUSKEE News The basket supper at Union Hill was enjoyed by all present. Mrs. Minnie Howle got the cake in the drawing. __ Messrs. Millard and Albert Cofield and Bob Wright visited Misses Ayres Saturday night. __ Mr. Austin Stephens visited Mr. Oscar Thrash Saturday night. __ K.W.
