BROWN DIES OF PTOMAINE POISONING Charlie R. Brown, a prominent and highly respected citizen of Muscadine, died at his home there Monday night of ptomaine poisoning, it is said. Mr. Brown was in Heflin on Monday looking after business affairs and enjoying the best of health. Having attended to that which he came to look after, in company with a Mr. Martin, started to walk to Edwardsville where they boarded Southern Train No. 8 that arrives at Muscadine at about 7 o'clock at night. Before reaching Muscadine, Mr. Brown complained of feeling sick, and when Muscadine was reached he was suffering great agony and pain and growing worse every minute. He was carried into the depot and a physician from Tallapoosa was hurriedly summoned. The physican worked heroicly with his patient until a late hour Monday night, and believing Mr. Brown out of danger, returned to his home. Soon the unfortunate man grew worse again and at 4:30 Tuesday morning death came to relieve the suffering of the good man. The direct cause of Mr. Brown's death is said to be from the eating of canned goods during the day Monday, setting up ptomaine poisoning. Mr. Brown was the second son of the late John Wm. Brown who was familiarly known by many of the older citizens of Cleburne; has four brothers, B.C. Brown of Quitman, Texas; H.H. and W.P. Brown of Muscadine and Rev. J. Alta Brown of Alabama City.
