Gray celebrated his 69th birthday. The 28th was also his son Leonard's birthday and Mrs. Gray and her daughters prepared a most bountiful dinner for the occasion. The "old gentleman" is reported as saying that he wished he had a birthday every week. Those present were Mrs. C.D. Bruce and children of Gadsden; Miss Bessie Burroughs and Leonard Gray of Oxford; Mrs. A.D. Cheatwood and children; Mrs. J.S. Gray and children; Mrs. and Mrs. Fred Gray and children and the hostess and family. __ IN MEMORY OF B.J. WALKER B.J. ( "Uncle" Bart) Walker was born June 18, 1841 in Fayette County, Georgia and departed this life September 27, 1922, age 81 years, three months and 9 days. He joined the Missionary Baptist church early in life and remained a faithful member until his death. Was married to Miss Lucinda Thompson in 1861 and to this union were born two children, both of whom preceeded their father to the great beyond. His second marriage was to Miss Sophia Smith in 1866 and to this union was born one daughter, now departed. He leaves besides his wife, two sisters and one brother to mourn his death. His body was laid to rest in the cemetery at Bethsadia, the funeral service being conducted by Rev. W.J. Campbell. Written by his brother, J.P. Walker, Hightower, Ala. ___ LOCAL News Mrs. Prestridge is visiting her daughter Mrs. A.C. Thompson at Tifton, GA where she will spend some time. __ Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Harlan and children visited Mr. and Mrs. J. Prater at Weaver Station last Sunday. A little boy of Mr. and Mrs. Prater was bitten by a mad dog ten days ago but is doing nicely. __ Mrs. John Crumpton, Melville and two daughters and Bessie McElroy visited in Anniston on Sunday. __ W.J. Bell and family of Bell Mills will move to Atlanta, GA during the coming week. Mr. Bell sold part of his land to his sons Roy and Reginal Bell. __ NEWSPAPER issue of Thursday, October 12, 1922 MUSCADINE News Mrs. Calla Chandler has been on the sick list for the past week. __ Mrs. R.M. Chandler and Mrs. C.P. Hill visited their mother Mrs. Hill. __ LOCAL News Mrs. E.W. Landers left for Birmingham on the 2nd to visit relatives and was called to Anniston on Wednesday of last week on account of the death of her brother, V.G. Howle. Mr. Howle was taken suddenly ill and died within a few hours. The interment was in the Oxford cemetery on the 4th. __ The condition of Miles Brown who was operated on at an Anniston hospital last Thursday was reported fairly good. The unfortunate man suffered great pain for several hours from an abcess of the stomach, necessitating an operation. Mr. Brown's many friends hope for his early recovery. __ Joe Jordan was carried to Anniston the latter part of last week and is said to be recovering. __ On September 25th the angel of death visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. John A. White and took their little son Howard, age nearly four years. Every effort was made to save him but all in vain. Funeral services were conducted at Ai by the Rev. P.D. Wilson and Rev. Barr and he was laid to rest in Ai cemetery under a beautiful bank of flowers to await the resurrection morn. Little Howard's stay on earth was very short but all who knew him loved him. He was such a bright, sweet child. ___ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, October 19, 1922 STORY FUNERAL HELD AT CANE CREEK LAST THURSDAY From The Anniston Star James M. Story, 40, whose death at Morrisville on Wednesday saddened many friends, was buried at Cane Creek Cemetery Thursday afternoon, the services being conducted by Rev. W.S. Griffin. Mr. Story had been ill for two weeks and his death came after extreme suffering. He is survived by his wife, three sons, three daughters, a mother, brothers and sisters. "Matt" as he was familiarly known in Cleburne, was born and raised in this county, where he has many friends who will be shocked to read of his untimely death. The Cleburne News extends sympathy to bereaved relatives. __ MUSCADINE News Mrs. N.W. Hill of Tallapoosa spent the weekend with her other Mrs. J.T. Chandler. __ Mr. and Mrs. G.W. Laminack spent Sunday afternoon with his father, Charlie Laminack at Cross Roads. __ Mr. and Mrs. C.J.
