He was laid to rest in the cemetery at Smyrna. ___ Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Cofield were the guests of their parents Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Cofield on Saturday. __ MR. WAITS KILLED BY FALLING LOG Mr. Dugan Waits, about thirty five years old, an employee of a logging crew working for Price Starr, was instantly killed when caught by a falling log at a pit a short distance below town Monday morning. The deceased was a married man and leaves a wife and four or five small children. The funeral and interment took place at Greens Chapel on Wednesday. ___ MUSCADINE News Mrs. Arthur Laminack was carried to an Anniston hospital to undergo an operation. __ LOCAL News Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Hudson visited their children in Birmingham the latter part of last week. Mr. Hudson attended the Kamram Grotto ceremonial on Friday and reported the parade one of the grandest affairs he ever witnessed. __ Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Wager visited Mr. and Mrs. James Roy Entrekin at Birmingham last week. While there Mr. Wager joined the Kamram Grotto, said to be a big and fast growing secret institution of its kind in the United States, only one year old, with a membership of over 6,000 true and tried Masons. The order carries an insurance feature giving each member of policy of $2,000. Uncle Jack declares that all good Masons should belong. ____ FOR RENT The Rutenberg farm near Tallapoosa and Muscadine on the Bentley Bridge road. See Bert Harris for term. ___ CAMP GROUND News Jesse Roberts has the fever and has been very low. __ We are sorry to note that "Uncle" Wright McCurdy, a well known citizen in Beat 3, now living at Piedmont, is very low and not expected to live long. ___ A. A. Roberts and family motored to Piedmont on Sunday to visit Mr. McCurdy. __ LITTLE BOY BADLY BURNED Henry, the bright little four year old boy of Mr. and Mrs. Claud Cunningham, was frightfully burned early Tuesday morning at the home of his parents, when his clothing caught on fire from an open grate. Medical aid was hurriedly summoned and everything possible done to relieve the unfortunate little fellow's suffering. The little boy was said to be resting fairly well on Wednesday morning. ___ ORDER ON PRESENTING PROBATE ACCOUNT FOR SETTLEMENT State of Alabama, Cleburne County Probate Court October Term October 5, 1923 To: H.E. Wheeler, Fannie Wheeler, Docia Dyer, R.A. Wheeler, Ezzy Driscoll, Neally Allison, Frank Allison, Nettie Bell Roberts, Clara Gable, Garner Allison and Millie Allison. This day came H.E. Wheeler, administrator of the estate of Henry Wheeler, deceased, and filed his account and vouchers for a final settlement of his administration of said estate. It is therefore ordered that the 3rd day of Nov. 1923 at 9:00 a.m., be and the same is hereby appointed a day upon which to examine and pass upon and allow said account and to make said settlements, and that notice thereof be given, by publication for three successive weeks in a newspaper published in said county, as a notice to all persons concerned to appear in this court on the 3rd day of Nov. 1923 and contest said settlement if they think proper. D.S . Baber, Judge of Probate ____ NEWSPAPER issue of Thursday, October 18, 1923 MISS MERRILL DIED WEDNESDAY Evelyn, the 15 year old daughter of Col. and Mrs. W.B. Merrill, died at Tuscaloosa where she was in school, Wednesday morning at 8 o'clock after a short illness of only a few days. Evelyn had been in school only since September. Her many friends and former schoolmates will be sad at the news of her death. The parents, brothers and sisters have the sympathy of the entire town and community in the death of their loved one. Funeral arrangements have not been announced. ___ PROBATE COURT NOTICE State of Alabama, Cleburne County In the matter of the estate of D.A. Johns, deceased. J.W. Black ____ NEWSPAPER issue of Thursday, October 25, 1923 MUSCADINE News Mrs. C.W. Hill and daughter Mrs. Hazel Jones visited Mrs. R.W. Martin on Sunday. __ LOCAL News Cleve Roberts, living seven or eight miles south of Heflin, had the misfortune of losing his home and its contents by fire at an early hour Sunday morning. Just how the fire was originated, Mr. Roberts does not know, the ceiling being about ready to fall in when the fire was discovered about 2:30 o'clock. The loss is partly covered by insurance. ___ Mr. and Mrs. Henry Benefield and little son from near Hopewell were visitors here Tuesday. __ Mr. and Mrs. John E. Buckalew and son Fred from Arizona have been visiting Mayor and Mrs. A.J. Haley.
