HANEY Paul K. Haney, 58, who was given a five year sentence in connection with the murder of Abb Giles, made bond last Wednesday. Judge Agee first set the bond at $2000. but later reduced it to $1000. which was made by a number of Atlanta people. Mr. Haney returned Wednesday night to his home in Atlanta. The murder conviction is pending appeal. __ LOCAL News Mrs. L.B. Sparks of Bessemer spent last week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.M. Harris. __ Mr. and Mrs. W.S. Terry spent the first of the week in Marietta, GA with relatives. __ Mr. Crow Owens of Leoma, Tenn., who is widely known in Cleburne county is visiting in Heflin this week. __ NEWSPAPER issue of Thursday, November 8, 1923 FINAL SETTLEMENT NOTICE Circuit Court of Equity, Cleburne County Estate of E.W. Landers, deceased. Now comes Mae Landers-Adams, administratrix of the estate of E.W. Landers, deceased, and files in the court on this day her petition in writing for a final settlement of her administration of said estate. And the 28th day of Nov. 1923 having been appointed by the court for examining, auditing and stating the same, notice is hereby given to all parties interested to appear on said day and contest the same if they think proper. Dated this 2nd day of November 1923. J.T. Boyd, Register. ____ LOCAL News Frank Reid, it is understood, has accepted a position with the Opelika Motor Car Co. and will take up his duties there about the 15th. He will move his family to Opelika about the first of December. ___ Miss Nell Duke spent Sunday with home folks while returning from Atlanta to the University. ___ Mr. Euel Jones and Miss Estell Norton were married Sunday at the home of Judge Glasgow who performed the ceremony. Mr. and Mrs. Jones left immediately for a visit to Rome, Atlanta and other points after which they will make their home at Heflin. __ Word was received in Heflin on Wednesday that Paul Adams, son of Mr. and Mrs. L.E. Adams, has been given the appointment to West Point U.S. Military Academy. The appointment is the first that has been given Cleburne, another having come from the state at large, that of Lt. Morgan. ___ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, November 15, 1923 LOCAL News Miss Anna Lena Rowell, who is with the Gertrude Comer Hospital at Pell City, spent Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Rowell. __ Melvin Crumpton and Clifford Vaughan who are teaching in the eastern part of the county spent Sunday here. __ J.E. Jackson from near Bowdon was here last week. __ Pink Flemons and family left Tuesday for Clarinet, Texas where they will make their future home. __ Mrs. Mandy Carroll of Dallas, Texas is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Jabe Morrison at Beason Mill. __ B.S. Crumby, a good friend residing in Heflin 8, was in to see us on Monday. __ Wilson Fowler of Hightower was here last week. __ Ross Moore of Columbus, Miss., spent the weekend with Heflin relatives. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, November 22, 1923 LOCAL News Mr. L.T. Beason of Snyder, Okla,. and Miss Gladys Striplin of Chulafinnee were married at the court house on Friday, Probate Clerk A.H. Glasgow performing the ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M.R. Striplin of the Chulafinnee section, and the groom is the son of J.W. Beason who formerly resided at Beason Mills but now of Oklahoma. ____ RANBURNE News Mr. Jones and family and Miss Dela Morris spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. J.I. Armstrong near Hightower. ___ Mrs. Ada Pirkle spent Sunday at Sandy Flat with her son. __ LOCAL News Amos Rooks left Saturday for Sand Mountain. __ Mr. J.H. Crumpton and Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Crumpton and sons Howard and Hugh were Ashland visitors on Sunday. ___ Hon. W.A. Porter left Heflin on Saturday to visit his daughter Mrs. C.A. Bowen at Childersburg and will be away until about Feb. 5th of next year. __ Mr. J.R. Roberts of Tallapoosa was in town today. Only a short time ago Mr. Roberts came over and carried back to Georgia as his wife, Miss Laura Jones. ___ DEATH OF MRS. TOLLESON Mrs. Louise Tolleson, widow of the late G.B. Tolleson, died at the home of a son in Anniston, Monday morning in her 70th year, her death bringing sorrow and sadness to many of her friends in Cleburne and Calhoun counties. Mrs. Tolleson formerly lived in this county and her body was brought back to Cleburne and laid to rest by the side of her husband in Cane Creek Primitive church near Edwardsville. Mrs. Tolleson was a member of the Edwards family, pioneers of this county. Mrs. Tolleson is survived by sons, A.L., O.L., W.A., J.O., S.L., L.A., and N.H. Tolleson; three daughters, Mrs. W.E. Barker, Mrs. W.H. Liner, and Miss Katie Tolleson. The funeral and burial services were conducted by Elder Monk of Anniston. ____ CHULAFINNEE News The singing Sunday night at J.W. Crosson's was enjoyed by a large crowd. __ Mr. and Mrs. S.D. Moore have returned from north Alabama and will make their home here. __ T.D. McLeroy and daughter Florence, visited Love McLeroy on Sunday. __ Perry Crosson and Luther Willingham left Monday for Florida to spend the winter. __ Willie B. Johnson and Kerron Thrower have gone to Tuscaloosa to work. __ Ira and Ertis McElroy are visiting in Georgia. ___ ABEL News John Kilgore had the misfortune of being kicked in the face by a mule and is considerably bruised. __ We regret to lose from our community W.D. Wade and family who are moving to Anniston. ___ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, November 29, 1923 MUSCADINE News Mr. Warner Albright of Mt. Zion, GA and Mrs. Lizzie Brown of this place were happily married on Saturday. We wish for them a long and prosperous life. ___ OAK LEVEL News J.A. Rogers and family will leave for their new home near Boaz on Monday. __ Miss Winnie Abney has returned from a visit with relatives at Cullman. ___ Walker Rogers of Albertville visited home folks last week. __ John Parker has returned home after spending three years in the Army on the Hawaiian Islands. __ Toy Gray has returned from Chattanooga, Tenn. __ LOCAL News Mr. and Mrs. John Phillips have moved to Bremen where the "old man" has a position with the Sanford Garage. __ Born, to Mr. and Mrs. Jack Faulkner, a girl. __ Mr. and Mrs. Leavin Beason have returned to their home in Snyder, Oklahoma. __ Mr. and Mrs. Ed Beason and Mr. and Mrs. Arlan White visited Mr. and Mrs. Dan White on Sunday. __ Rev. J.
