M. Wagner, gauger at the distillery of Moore & Norton, died at the home of Rev. John M. Evans, three miles east of Heflin, Wednesday morning, of typhoid fever. Mr. Wagner was sick about six weeks. He leaves a wife and one child to mourn his death. He came to Heflin from Dothan, Alabama last year and his body was carried there for interment. __ W.H. J. Campbell died at the home of his father, J.M. Campbell, at Chulafinnee Thursday. He was about 23 years of age and was an enterprising and brainy young man. Henry had many friends in the county who will learn of his death with regret. The friends of the family sympathize with them in their deep distress. __ Mrs. York died at the home of her husband, J.L. York near Howles's Grove Thursday. Mrs. York was a christian lady and her hopes of an immortal life are realized. Her family receive the sympathy of friends. __ Mrs. Jacob Treadaway died at her home near Evansbridge Tuesday of paralysis. She had been confined to her bed for several weeks. __ Mrs. Nancy L. Higginbotham died at home in Edwardsville last Saturday night after a long illness. She was a consecrated christian woman, having joined the church in early life, she remained true to the teachings of the master. Funeral service was held at the M.E. Church and her body laid to rest in the Edwardsville cemetery Monday. Many of her Heflin friends attended the funeral. __ LOCAL and PERSONAL News Landers Bros. have a pair of fine young mules for sale. Landers Bros. want 1500 hens. Will pay 20 cents each for them. __ J.B. Dunston came up from Jasper, Walker County, Wednesday night to spend a few days in the city with his family. He reports good business conditions in that portion of the state. __ Mr. H.G. Noell has had a force of hands at work for the past week cleaning off the Heflin Cemetery and it now presents a great deal better appearance though much more time and labor is needed to beautify and improve it as it should be. __ Miss Eunice Davis is dangerously ill at the home of her grandfather, Rev. John A. Scott. __ Born, to Mr. and Mrs. H.S. Abercrombie, last Saturday, a fine boy. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of February 17, 1900 LOCAL and PERSONAL News (Heflin, AL) Mrs. E.R. Stephenson is recovering from a two weeks sickness of measles. __ Eugene Zaner of Birmingham spent a few days in Heflin this week with his parents. __ The mercury took a tumble last night. The thermometer registered 10 degrees above zero this morning. __ Mrs. C.A. Bowen after spending a week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Porter, in this city, returned to her home at Childersburg yesterday. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Saturday, February 24, 1900 LOCAL and PERSONAL News R.M. Ingram of Anniston, spent Wednesday in the city. __ Chair bottoms at the Heflin Hardware store, 10 cents. __ At the home of Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Glasgow, the bride's parents, Mr. James A. Prater and Miss Mattie Glasgow were united in the holy bonds of wedlock last Sunday morning, Rev. J.D. Johnson performing the ceremony. Mr. Prater is a prominent citizen of Calhoun County and his highly esteemed by all who know him. His bride is a charming and intellectual young woman and number her friends by her acquaintances. The New era, together with their numerous friends, wish for them a life of pure joy, interspersed with infinite happiness and abundant prosperity. __ Miss Eunice Davis, after along illness of comsumption, died at the home of her grandfather, Rev. John A. Scott Monday morning. Miss Eunice was about 16 years old and was a consecrated christian girl. She had suffered about eight months and repeatedly expressed herself as ready to lay aside mortal life, if it was the will of the master, and enter upon a life of immortality. She leaves three sisters adn two brothers, besides an affectionate grandfather, to mourn her death. After an impressive funeral service conducted by Rev. W.W. Scott of Anniston, she was laid away beside her mother and father in the family burying ground at Ironcity.
