A. Crawford is reported quite sick. Hope him a speedy recovery. __ M.J.M. Sleeper who has been on the sick list for about three weeks is reported some better. __ The 4th was celebrated here very quietly. Mrs. Martin Dahl gave an entertainment in honor of Mr. Dahl's birthday to about 30 invited guests. __ LOCAL News Mr. and Mrs. W.A. New of Charlotte, N.C. are visiting their daughters, Mrs. J.N. Day and Mrs. W.P. Harris, after a delightful trip to the World's Fair and other western points. __ Mr. W.P. New of Birmingham is visiting his sister, Mrs. J.N. Day. __ Miss Ella Perryman returned Saturday night from Texas where she has been for the past two weeks visiting her aunt, Mrs. Teague and other relatives. __ Mrs. Claud Cunningham and children will leave Thursday to visit relatives in Texas and Oklahoma. __ Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Hubbard were among those from Tallapoosa, GA attending the singing here Sunday. __ Miss Laura Sharpe of Atlanta spent Sunday and Monday with her aunt, Mrs. Baxter. __ Miss Ellen Rutenberg and Miss Hennie Rutenberg have returned from Tallapoosa, GA where they attended the wedding of their cousin Miss Edna Mitnich. __ Wednesday afternoon as Mr. Dus Tolleson was riding up the street between the bank and the Hunnicutt building he fell from his motorcycle but fortunately escaped injury. Quite a crowd had gathered in the street as Mr. George Moore rode up on his motorcycle to see what the trouble was and the foot- rest of his machine accidentally struck Mr. G.F. Hill on the right leg, breaking it just above the ankle. A physician immediately gave the broken limb attention and Mr. Hill was then carried home and is reported to be getting along all right. __ Mr. Elbert Hicks and Miss McIntire were married Sunday, and what a good dinner was served at Mrs. Hicks on Monday to a number of Elberts friends who wish the young couple well. ___ Will Putnam died at his home at Borden Springs on Tuesday night after an illness of some time with tuberculosis. The deceased was 28 years of age and leaves a wife and two or three small children. The burial was made at Borden Springs yesterday. ___ NEWSPAPER issue of Thursday, July 15, 1915 M.F. McWhorter and V.A. Cook left Friday night for Mt. Vernon where they took Gertrude Jackson, a negro woman, to the insane hospital for the negroes. They returned Sunday night. ___ NEW HOPE Community News Mr. and Mrs. J.D. King of near Waco, GA visited the latter's parents, Mr. C.W. Dryden on Saturday and Sunday. __ Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Dryden Jr., visited the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton of near Muscadine on Sunday. __ LOCAL News Misses Messie and Bernice Sealy of McRae, GA are the guests of their cousin, Miss Litha Adams. __ Mrs. Lovic Adams and children returned recently from a visit to relatives in Oklahoma. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, July 22, 1915 Mrs. J.W. Barnes and daughter Vera left Sunday for Fredericksburg, Texas to visit Mrs. Barnes' mother. __ Mr. and Mrs. Smith Jones and children and Mrs. Maud Entrekin of Bremen are the guests of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Henry. __ Mr. Dennis Dunkin who has been operating a jewelry shop here for some time will move to Dora, Walker County, Alabama about the first of August. His many friends in this county will regret to see him leave. ___ OLD CITIZEN DEAD Jimmie Thompson died at his home about three miles west of Chulafinnee on Tuesday night at the advanced age of 82 years. He had never been married and leaves a sister, who lived with him, this sister being 84 years old. The remains were buried at the Thompson Family burying ground. ___ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, July 29, 1915 MR. DANIEL AND MISS HOWLE MARRIED AT BEASON'S MILL On last Sunday, July 25th, Mr. J.G. Daniel of Newell and Miss Inus Howle of Beason's Mill, were married at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. H.M. Howle. Rev. G.H. Shadix who is pastor at Cedar Creek, where the bride is a member, and also pastor at Smyrna where Mr. Daniel is a member, performed the ceremony. Miss Howle is a popular member of one of Cleburne county's most prominent and prosperous families. Mr. Daniel is a prosperous farmer and business man of near Newell in Randolph County. The couple left Sunday afternoon for their home in Randolph. The News joins their friends in best wishes. ___ CARD OF THANKS Mr. Editor, I want to thank my good neighbors and friends through the columns of your paper, for the untiring and attentive services rendered during the sickness and death of my wife. Also the many favors they still are extending me and my little children. A.U. Hudson, Cedar Creek, Ala., July 24, 1915. ____ WILL HOLD REUNION The ex-confederate veterans of Haralson County, Georgia will hold a reunion, with speaking and Sacred Harp singing at the court house in Buchanan on Wednesday, August the 11th, 1915. The old soldiers enjoy singing and hearing sung these old songs their mother sang. ___ FRUITHURST News Mrs. J.W. Burchfield who has been visiting her father and relatives near Heflin for a week, returned home Saturday, accompanied by her brother, R. Norton, wife and children. __ CAMPGROUND News Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Owens were guests of the latter's mother, Mrs. Nancy Roberts on Saturday night. __ Mr. and Mrs. B.F. Moore are the happy parents of a baby boy. ___ CARD OF THANKS I want to thank all people for their assistance during the illness and death of my dearly beloved husband. I sincerely thank al the people in and around our community and I also thank Mr. Lott and the people of Heflin for their assistance and hope they all may meet him in a better home. Peeples. __ Mr. Harvey Liner is spending a few days with home folks near Tallapoosa. __ Mrs. C.T. Kitchens has been on the sick list this week. __ Miss Gillespy of Boaz is the guest of her cousin Miss Maud Harris this week. __ Mrs. Stephenson and son, formerly of Edwardsville, spent Tuesday night in Heflin on her way home from Oklahoma where she has been at the bedside of her mother who is quite ill. __ Mr. Cecil Bean of Ashland visited the family of his father Mr. J.C. Bean Saturday and Sunday. __ Deputy Sheriff M.F.
