He is reported as being slightly improved at his home. ---- PARKER FAMILY REUNION HELD ON AUG. 21st A reunion of the Parker family was held at the Ben Parker place, three miles east of Grantley church on Sunday, August 31. Hoyt Fair was the principal speaker and plans were made to hold the reunion annually on a designated Sunday late each summer. Those present were: R.C. They also attended preaching at Pleasant Hill. ---- Elva Riddle is visiting her aunt Mrs. Bessie Williams at Talladega. ---- AYERS REUNION HELD AT HOME OF GREGGS The children of Mrs. M.E. Ayers met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. O.N. Greggs on Aug. 31. The people began to gather about 9 o'clock for the general get together. A bountiful lunch was spread a the lunch hour. Pictures were made and every one had a nice time. Among those present were: Mrs. M.E. SEWELL GRADUATES FROM CHEMICAL SCHOOL Camp Polk, La. Sgt. C.W. Sewell has graduated from the Division Chemical Warfare School at Camp Polk, La. Sgt. Sewell is assigned to Co. E, 36th Armo., part of the 3rd Armored (Bayon Blitz) Division, commanded by Major General Alvan C. Gillem Jr. Sgt. Sewell is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Sewell or Muscadine, Ala. ------ IN MEMORY In loving memory of my brother Richard Pulley who passed away July 10, 1941 As long as love within my heart recalls the one who is gone, I cannot say that it is death, for memory lingers on, And so the dark clouds turn gray, then gray to blue, May happy memories that remain, bring cheer and comfort to you. Written by his sister who loved him dearly, Sybil Pulley ------ DEATHS MRS. MARY E. BAILEY Mrs. Mary E. Bailey, age 83, died August 19 at her residence on Muscadine, Route 1. Funeral services were held August 20 from Camp Ground Church by the Rev. J.P. McDurmont. Interment was in the church cemetery with Brown - Service directing. Mrs. Bailey is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Lee Kilgore of Steele; Mrs. Olive Biggers of Muscadine; Mrs. M.M. Chandler of Muscadine; and Mrs. W.N. Bowman of Brompton; four sons, W.J. and G.W. of Muscadine and T.M. of Jacksonville and R.L. of Fruithurst. ----- ALVIN B. NORVELL Alvin B. Norvell, age 69, a former resident of Micaville, died in a Greenbelt, Md. hospital on Aug. 30 after an illness of five weeks. Funeral services were held from Micaville church on Sept. 2 at 10 a.m. by the Rev. T.D. Stovall. Interment was in the church cemetery with Brown - Service of Heflin directing. Mr. Norvell is survived by one son, John, of Greenbelt, Md., and two sisters, Mrs. Lucie Arnold of Detroit and Mrs. Anne E. Smith of Washington, D.C. ----- MRS. NANCY PRUITT Mrs. Nancy Pruitt, age 81, passed away Sept. 2 at the residence of her daughter Mrs. Alice Powell on Edwardsville, Route 1. Funeral services were held Sept. 3 from Mt. Perron by the Revs. S.P. Brown, C.E. Garner and Edward Day. Interment was in the church cemetery with Brown - Service in charge. Mrs. Pruitt is survived by two sons, seven daughters and two sisters. ----- LOCAL News Ernest Reaves visited in Bremen, Ga. on Thursday of last week with his sister Mrs. Carl Smith. ---- BLAKE - ALLEN Mr. and Mrs. Henry Blake annouce the marriage of their daughter Lucille to Thomas R. Allen Jr. on Saturday, August 30. ---- Mrs. F.B. Vise has gone to the bedside of her mother Mrs. Cain in Eldorado, Ark. ---- NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, SEPTEMBER 18, 1941 PLEASANT HILL News "Turkey" Tom Boman from Talladega visited his sister Mrs. Kate Turner over the weekend. ---- Ray Riddle of Selma visited his parents Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Riddle last weekend. ---- Mr. and Mrs. Lester Bible and Marvin Bible from Blue Mountain visited their parents Mr. and Mrs. Claude Bible. ---- NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, SEPTEMBER 25, 1941 HEFLIN BICYCLIST DIES OF INJURIES Funeral services for Henry Clay Stephens, age 24, of Heflin, who was fatally injured Saturday night when he was struck by an automobile while riding a bicycle along the highway near Heflin, were conducted this afternoon at New Harmony church by the Rev. H.R. Carter. Burial was in the church cemetery with Jones in charge. Mr. Stephens was injured about 9 o'clock and death came about midnight. He did not regain consciousness. He suffered head injuries. Surviving are the father, Frank Stephens, two brothers, Bob and Jack, all of Heflin and four sisters, Mrs. Ida Jennings of Anniston, Mrs. H.E. Mitchell, Mrs. I.M. Kitchens and Mrs. Pearl Hinton, all of Heflin. ------ PLEASANT HILL News Sept. 22nd Mrs. Jesse Elkins spent Sunday with her mother Mrs. Mary Crumbley at Waco, Ga. ---- Mrs. Woodrow Pains and son Mack are visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. Grubbs. ----- LOCAL News Mrs. P. Raymond Bell (Miss Mildred Rhodes) of Boston, Mass. is spending a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Thomas Rhodes. ---- Miss Angie Catherine Rhodes left a few days ago for Washington, D.C. where she has accepted a position with the Navy Department. ---- Mr. and Mrs. Neal Morgan attended the marriage on Saturday, Sept. 20 of Mrs. Morgan's brother, Dr. Samuel Little to Miss Anne Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Henry Miller of Helen, Ga.
