Thrower subscribed to The New Era last week. __ Ed Hammond says John Gossage picked 400 pounds of cotton in one day last week. __ Leroy Blanton, son of Mr. and Mrs. R.D. Blanton, died here Tuesday afternoon. Lee was about 20 years of age. We grieve with the parents over the loss. The funeral was conducted at the home of Bros. Boman and Wilson. Many friends attended. The flowers sent by Mrs. A.J. Adams and Miss Minnie were beautiful and appreciated. Leroy was buried Wednesday. ___ Sunday morning, October 22nd, Mr. James Anderson was united in matrimony with Miss Anna Bradbury at the home of the bride's parents near Hightower. __ Mrs. H.G. Noell was buried here last week. She formerly lived here but lived in Anniston at the time of her death. She was the wife of our friend Bud Noell. Rev. Stoves, pastor of the First Methodist Church at Anniston who accompanied the body, delivered a most excellent funeral oration. R.A. Noell of Oakfuskee and J.J. Noell, J.W. Hackney and J.W. Crawford of Lincoln were in attendance at the funeral. Mr. H.G. Noell and family express full appreciation for the kindness shown them and for the beautiful floral offerings. ___ FRUITHURST News T.M. Suit and wife, having sold their property are about to leave for Cleveland, Tenn., their old home place. __ Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Laird are very happy since a wee girl came to them, on the 25th. Her name is Grace Leah. __ Mrs. L.M. Johnson of Ostrander, Minn., is visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Maust and brother Warren. __ BELL MILLS News Mr. T.H. Evans, who has been very ill for some time, is reported improving. __ W.G. McElroy was called to the bedside of his uncle Rev. S.R. Crumpton of Haleyville who was dangerously ill. __ Will White and wife of Hightower visited their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Baughan on Sunday. __ Mrs. Ella Lott returned from Anniston Monday where she had gone to have her eyes treated. __ HUBBARDVILLE News Edward Blake has returned from Mississippi. __ Mr. Starling Wise and wife were the guests of their father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Roberts on Sunday. __ T.N. Campbell was the pleasant guest of his father-in-law, J.W. Grubbs on Monday night. __ HEFLIN RT. 1 News Mitchell Blake and family spent the day with Mr. Howard Cox and family the 3rd Sunday. Mr. Blake has his new house completed and has moved in. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, November 9, 1911 OAKFUSKEE News Idus Landers of Randolph was a pleasant visitor in our burg on Sunday. __ Roy Roberts spent Saturday and Sunday with his uncle, Dr. Jerry Lindsey of Hightower. __ R.A. Noell and wife, J.H. Blake and daughter Bertha, Wm. Blake and daughter Cora, Henry Blake and Mrs. Sarah Jane Blake attended the burial of Mrs. Bud Noell at Heflin on Saturday. __ Asa Turley and family and John Turley and family visited near Beason Mill on Sunday. __ Joe Borders and son Marvin went to Heflin on Saturday. _____ NOTICE OF APPOINTMENT OF ADMINISTRATOR State of Alabama, Cleburne County Probate Court November 8, 1911 In the matter of the estate of Elizabeth Whitman, deceased Letters of administration on the estate of Elizabeth Whitman, deceased, having been granted to the undersigned on the 8th day of November 1911, by the Hon. Mr. Walker is convinced that the old hills of Alabama are hard to beat. __ We are sorry to report that the little boy of L.C. Fowler, Tom Luther, happened to the misfortune of getting his leg broken last Friday. He seems to be resting very well at this time. __ NEWSPAPER issue of Thursday, November 16, 1911 MRS. ALECK ROWELL SR., DIED On November 3, 1911, death took Mrs. Aleck Rowell Sr. She died about 10 p.m. after a week of suffering. Mrs. Rowell was formerly Miss Maggie E. Brannon, born in 1855 in Henry County, GA. She was married in 1884. She joined the M.E. Church, South at the age of 15; she exemplified in her life the christian virtues and was loved by all. Her death was sadly sweet. Just as the touch of death claimed her a triumphant smile wreathed her face, proclaiming both the human and the divine. When the hand of a sister of the order of the Eastern Star pinned the bade on the breast that was cold in death; when the husband who was sick unto death himself pulled himself up and looked for the last time into the casket on the face of that dead wife, and to hear the agony of the sigh in the last farewell is enough to remind us that it is not all of life to live. ____ LOCAL News W.J. Beverly left us last week for Texas. Mr. Beverly by his upright life has made many friends who wish him a pleasant visit among friends and relaitves. Mr. Beverly will open up his laundry business here again some time after Christmas. __ W.R. Smith, one of our old friends in Cullman, was in to see us and ordered the New Era sent to him. Bro. Smith is doing well over there. __ S.F. Crew and wife of Bremen visited Mr. and Mrs. Aleck Rowell Jr. the first of the week. __ Uncle Aleck Rowell is improving. He has been a very sick man. __ Mr. T.J. Jackson of Heard County, GA is visiting his daughter Mrs. J.J. Wager. __ Elbert Crumpton is the kind of a boy to have; he paid for his New Era in wood and he loves to read from the county paper and is going to bring pine and get the Progressive Farmer. __ Sam Harlan and Miss Jessie Davis were married on Sunday. Congratulations to the happy couple. __ Quiet and beautiful was the marriage of Miss Belle Owens of this place to Dr. T.G. Hill of Geneva last Wednesday evening. Dr. Hill is a dentist; Miss Belle is the accomplished and beautiful daughter of Mr. B.F. Owens, an honored Heflin citizen. __ J.H. Wade of Hightower, who has opened the new blacksmith shop down on Ross street will move to Heflin in the near future. __ Chester Lovvorn, one of our telephone boys, spent last week at work on the telephone in and around Hightower. __ Mrs. A.J. Hurst is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Fowler of Hightower this week. __ FRUITHURST News Gus Reese and wife and little daughter left here last Monday for Cullman, Ala., crossing the country by private conveyance. __ NEWSPAPER issue of Thursday, November 23, 1911 LOCAL News Mrs. A.J. Haley is at the bedside of two of Mrs. Coggins' children in Birmingham. Duke Haley has just returned from there. ___ Miss Senie Turner was married at the home of her Aunt, Mrs. Patterson recently. ____ FRUITHURST News Mr. T.M. Suits and wife left last Wednesday for Cleveland, Tenn., where they will make their home. __ M.H. Krook is a fine wood carver; a sample may been seen over his rustic front gate. He has named his home place "Oak Lawn." ___ With sad hearts we record the death of Mrs. Mary Carver, wife of Frederick A. Carver, who left here several years ago for their beautiful home in Southern California. She was carried away November 8th. Their many friends extend warmest sympathy ot the lonely one. ____ LIBERTY HILL News Vester McElroy of Delta spent Saturday night and Sunday with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Thrower. __ Miss Morey Stovall has just returned from Anniston where she has been visting her aunt, Mrs. J.W. Weatherly. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, November 30, 1911 LOCAL News Married, last Sunday, Miss Hattie Crumpton and Mr. G.I. Hewett. Miss Hattie is a daughter of Ben Crumpton. __ Mrs. J.M. Evans is recovering from a bad spell of sickness, in Bowdon. __ David Parnell left Cleburne some three years ago to live in Mississippi. Dave found him a better half over there and wanting to give her the best, has moved back to old Cleburne. Cleburne is a fine place for young married folks. ___ FRUITHURST News Word comes to us that Mr. Jake Leonard and Miss Vanner Ballew were married Sunday the 19th after a courtship of more than a year. They are at Cullman, Ala where the happy pair are making their home. ___ HIGHTOWER News Luther Bradbury and Miss Hattie Anderson were married last Sunday.
