EVANS Hugo, Okla., 101 S. Broadway June 26, 1914 To: Mr. Alf Turner, Heflin, Ala., Dear friend, Guess you will be somewhat surprised to hear from an old Alabamian out in Oklahoma. Cousin Bill H. is here now at my shop. He likes Hugo fine but likes the farming lands better out in the southwest part of the state. Crops are a little short here on account of rain in the spring didn't let us plant until late. Guess you all will have an awful good time the fourth of July. I notice in The News that you would have some of the old time singers on the 4th. Cousin Bill said it didn't look like he could afford to miss it but we will have one here, yet it won't be near so good as you will have for we haven't the harp singers. A.M., I will send you one of our dailies that has our announcement of the singing and we would like for you to publish it so our old friends will know we have a little of what they will have alot of. Don't guess you have been another fishing. That was a grand old day with me. Wish I could be with you all the 4th. Murroe has turned out to be an old barber since he came here. All our Alabama people here are doing ok. They have begun work on our new depot so we are to have a better one than the one that burned down. I will ring off. Your friend, W.L. Evans. ______ LOCAL News Born to Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Harris, a girl. We bow with humble submission to him who doeth all things well. In the death of Mrs. Nichols her husband has lost a devoted wife, her two sons a loving mother, the Farmer's Union, a faithful member. She was buried at the New Harmony cemetery with the honors of the Union of which she was a loyal member. She bore her afflictions with patience, never murmured or complained.
