Spoon and Brown were brothers-in-law and it is understood that the trouble arose through family differences. The sheriff's office was notified and Brown was lodged in jail Sunday evening by A. Rowell who left immediately upon receipt of the news for Borden Springs. ____ ERVIN POPE WILL BE HANGED NEXT WEEK Anniston, Aug. 19th - - Sheriff C.T. Brooks has awarded a contract for the construction of the gallows on which Ervin Pope will hand on August 22nd for the murder of J.B. McClurkin, unless the governor intervenes. Attorney T.J. Harris, who represents the negro in his fouth and fifth trials and the subsequent appearances before the supreme court says that no further effort will be made to change the verdict of the lower court, but that every effort will be made to have the negro's sentences commuted to life imprisonment. Work on the gallows and the enclosure around will begin on Monday. ____ LOCAL News Mr. and Mrs. Jno. H. Mason of Mt. Pleasant, Texas are visiting relatives and friends in Cleburne. Mr. Mason removed from Belltown twelve years ago and his many friends are glad to have him and wife visit them again. ____ Mrs. P.A. Howle of Hugo, Oklahoma is visiting her mother Mrs R.L. Reid. ___ Costa Barker of Birmingham is visiting relatives near Bells Mill. __ T.I. Landers and son Silvey of Bowdon, GA were in town Saturday. __ Mrs. Rebecca Wright and daughter Emma and son Rev. E.F. Wright of Williamsburg, Kentucky and daughter Annie Mary are visiting the families of O.F. Staples and E.W. Teague. ___ Frank Morgan of Montgomery spent Sunday with his parents. __ FRUITHURST News Miss M. Louise Jones came up from Birmingham Thursday night to spend a few days with her mother Mrs. Wilder, returning to Birmingham again Monday morning. ___ Wm. Bondurant, one of Birmingham's fire lads, came in Friday morning to spend a few days with his folks. __ Mr. Edwin Nelson, of Birmingham, son of our former citizen C.O. Nelson, spent last week in town visiting friends, returning home Saturday morning. __ Mr. and Mrs. Olaf Nelson of Chicago came here Friday evening to speng a week or two. They own some property in or near Muscadine. __ NEWSPAPER issue of Thursday, August 27, 1914 MICAVILLE News Bill Brown and Miss Elmer Parish went to Carrollton, GA on last Sunday and got married and returned home Tuesday. We wish them along and happy life. __ Several from this area are going up to the Holy Roller meeting this week at Hurricane. ___ LOCAL News Mrs. Ben Ford of Tennessee has been visiting in town for the past week. __ Judge Glasgow issued a marriage license Wednesday to R.D. Nichols and Mrs. Mary Turner, this being his third marriage during the past three years. He was married in August 1912 and Aug. 1913 and August 1914. Mr. Nichols is no sort of a "down and out." ___ Mrs. Mary Brannon of Dallas, Texas who has been visiting relatives near Heflin returned to her home by way of Naples, Texas. ___ Judge T.A. Johnson left Wednesday morning for his home in Hugo, Oklahoma where he will spend a few days and then to to Sulphur Springs for his health. He expects to return and resume his law practice as soon as his health is improved. ___ Little Miss Pearl Barton is visiting her grandmother Mrs. S.C. Gray at Oak Level and going to school. She writes the editor they they are having a fine school and a good time. ___ Born to Mr. and Mrs. Claude Cunningham on Friday, a girl. __ ABERNATHY News Willie Harris and Miss Mattie Lee were joined in the holy bonds of matrimony at the home of the bride on Sunday. __ Mrs. Polly Entrekin is visiting her daughter Mrs. W.A. Lowery. __ Mrs. Lona Todd of Arbacoochee visited her mother Mrs. N.R.
