Young Haywood was replacing a belt which had slipped from the pulley and while doing so was caught by the belt, tearing one arm from his body and broke the other, besides other injuries. He was interred with masonic honors today. The News extends sympathy for the bereaved relatives and friends. ___ LOST - - Monday night at Heflin, a folding pocket book containing $6. in money, check on Marshall's office in Birmingham and other papers. Finder return to this office and receive reward. J.G. Gay, Hightower, Ala. ____ "Uncle" Tom Campbell brought us a stalk of corn last week which had five well developed ears of corn on it. This corn was grown on Uncle Tom's farm five miles east of Heflin. He says he has a lot of stalks just as good. ____ The wedding of Miss Nell Grant and Mr. Bruce Evans was solemnized at the M.E. Church on Tuesday evening. Mr. Evans is the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe M. Evans. Miss Grant is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.O. Grant. Mr. and Mrs. Evans left immediately after the ceremony for Anniston, their future home where they will be at home to their friends at 900 Leighton Ave., after Nov. 7, 1914. ___ FRUITHURST News Rev. Crumpton of Bowdon, former pastor of this place, preached at the M.E. Church on Sunday night. __ Mrs. M.E. Forsythe who has been living in Mississippi for the past two years has returned to make Fruithurst her home in the future. ___ E.E. Lee sent us a fine 8 1/2 pound potato last week which he raised on his farm near Micaville. It was so large it had to be delivered on a dray. ___ LOCAL News Mrs. Howard Ector of Shawnutt is spending the sweek with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Haley. __ Rev. V.W. Kennedy, the Holiness preacher of near Hurricane, passed through Heflin on Tuesday on his way to north Ala., to preach a funeral. ___ BELL MILLS News "Uncle" Tom Brown has completed the mason work on the new store and returned to his home in Atlanta, GA, carrying with him such things as fresh country eggs, friers, possums, sorghum syrup, butter, etc. ____ ROUTE 1 News Mr. H.M. Howle has just finished making over 500 gallons of sorghum. __ Mr. Morgan Howle has accepted the school at Arbacoochee. Wish you much success, Morgan. ___ Mr. Hoyt Hudson has accepted the school at Cedar Creek. We feel certain that he will have success. __ Mr. Henry Landers will preach for us at Cedar Creek next Sunday night, the second Sunday. Come one and all. ___ Mr. Bridges is a single man so look out before the year is out. He is teaching at Green's Chapel. ____ Mr. A.V. Thrower went hunting last night and caught 6 nice possums. He said he would have enjoyed it had he not fallen in the creek. ___ Mr. Charles Kennedy got his jaw split open the other day while working at his machinery. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, November 12, 1914 LOCAL News W.L. Burgess of Edwardsville and Mrs. S.R. Reid of this place were married at the courthouse on Monday afternoon by Judge Glasgow. ___ L.N. Starr who lives near Chulafinnee says to tell the boys if they want to see a good hog to come to his house; he has a hog seven months old that will dress 250 pounds net and states further that his hog is not for sale. ___ Jack Gann, of Clay County, an old citizen of Cleburne, was on the streets Tuesday. __ James Teal returned to his old home in Cleburne on Tuesday. ___ Alex Rowell has appointed M.F. McWhorter as deputy. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, November 19, 1914 LOCAL News Mrs. Arthur Vaughan is seriously ill at her home on Oxford street. __ Messrs. R.G. Pettijohn of Birmingham and J.D. Pettijohn of Shreveport, LA are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Sam White. __ Oco Hill fell from the delivery wagon of Heflin Meat Market on Tuesday and had the misfortune of breaking his arm. __ Born to Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Burgess to Mrs. Mary Reid _______ CARING FOR THE HOMELESS Some of the kind hearted and generous women of Heflin have not forgotten the unfortunate inmates of "Woodland" the county home for the homeless. While they are quite fortunate in a way to be cared for, yet these good women have bestirred themselves to brighten their lives by carrying them a nice dinner of their own cooking. This is a courtesy to the aged and unfortunate inmates who have not the home and family connection they once have had. It is always a great satisfaction to know there is some one who cares for us and this one little act may tend to make bright and merry hours throught he cold lonely winter. Woodland is a beautiful spot, a neat and comfortable house built for Cleburne's homeless, and the county has been right successful in choosing the keepers of this home. _____ LOCAL News W.G. McElroy who has been a citizen of Heflin for a year will move to his farm in Trickem Valley within the next two weeks. __ W.W. Faulkner and Jeff Bradberry left Monday for Marion County, Alabama where they have purchased farms and will make their home in the future. __ Dr. Aaron Godwin is seriously ill at his home near Muscadine, Ala. __ Mrs. O.F. Staples was called to the bedside of her father at Talladega on Monday, who is seriously ill. __ J.A. Norton will take charge of the Pauper's Home on January 1st. He will receive $8. per month for each inmate. There are only six inmates at present which is the smallest number that ever was there. ___ ROUTE 1 News Mr. Ben Chase is very ill with fever. Hope he will be out soon. __ NOTICE OF GRANT OF LETTERS OF ADMINISTRATION Estate of George V.
