New died at his home in Lithonia, Georgia last Friday after an illness of a few days of pneumonia. He was nearly 90 years of age. he resided here about 1886, being an employee of the Georgia Pacific, now the Southern Railway and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. The deceased leaves a wife, who is also nearing 90 years of age and several children and numerous relatives, one daughter and other relatives residing in this community. Mrs. J.N. Harris of Heflin, a daughter, was at her father's bedside when the end came. ____ ABERNATHY News Mr. Emmitt Grizzard's son, Calvin, has pneumonia fever. __ William Bennett has been confined to his bed for several weeks with rheumatism. __ Mrs. S.W. Pounds has been quite sick but is some better now. __ LOCAL News Mrs. Wm. Herrin and son have returned from a visit to friends in Birmingham. __ Mrs. O.W. Cheatwood and children of DeArmanville were the guests of Mrs. Pierce Owens this week. __ Mrs. Barrow and Sadie Freeman spent the weekend at the home of Dr. Ligon near Chulafinnee. __ Mr. and Mrs. Swifty Davis of Anniston passed through Heflin on Sunday afternoon on their way to Fort Myers and other points of interest in Florida. __ MICAVILLE News Miss Cora Bains spent several days last week with her sister Mrs. Mary Henderson. __ Mr. Amos Rooks and wife attending the preaching at Cedar Creek on Saturday and Sunday. __ STONE HILL Community News Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Fowler and Miss Annie Lou Hilton visited Mrs. Blake on Sunday. __ EDWARDSVILLE News Mr. Jesse Harper and Miss Limma Conn of this place were happily married by Mr. J.T. Newborne early Sunday morning. They went to Ranburne where a nice supper had been prepared for them. __ NEWSPAPER issue of Thursday, April 8, 1915 OAKFUSKEE News Thad Ayres and family visited his sister Mrs. Artie Greggs of Delta on Saturday night and Sunday. __ Pat Morrison and wife spent Sunday with their parents Mr. and Mrs. Lipham. __ LOCAL News Ponder Kitchens, son of Mr. C.T. Kitchens, has recovered from his recent attack of illness. __ Mr. James Stephens and bride arrived Sunday night from Rock Run. __ Mrs. Nora Black from Texas is visiting her sister Mrs. Teague. __ FAMILY REUNION Mrs. W.G. Porter returned last Monday from a visit of several days to her sisters, Mesdames George DeShazo and Captain Robson of Montevallo. Mrs. Porter's mother, Mrs. John Loveless of Bessemer, was also visiting her daughters at Montevallo and on last Sunday the family had a reunion at the home of Mrs. George DeShazo, the first reunion since the death of the father, Mr. John Loveless, 18 years ago. Those of the family present were Mrs. John Loveless., the mother, of Bessemer, AL; Mrs. T.S. Milsap of Jemison; Mrs. Jones of Birmingham; Mr. W.T. Loveless of Bessemer; Mr. John E. Loveless of Bessemer; Mrs. George DeShazo and Mrs. Captain Robson of Montevallo; and Mrs.W.G. Porter of Heflin. ___ CAMPGROUND Community News Mr. and Mrs. B.F. Moore visited Mr. and Mrs. Moses Hicks of Tallapoosa, Georgia on Sunday. __ Mr. A.J. Buttram of Tallapoosa, Georgia visited T.D. McLarty Saturday night. __ LOCAL News This office had a very pleasant call on Thursday last from Mr. H.M. Howle and little son Herbert of Beason's Mill. ___ MUSCADINE News Mr. R.E. Powell has been quite sick. __ We learn that Mr. Bradley's little daughter was burned to death on the 25th of March. The father was attracted by the screams of the child but arrived too late to save her. It is said he had his hands badly burned while trying to extinguish the fire. ___ Grandmother Dodd, although in her 91st year, is still able to walk about the house. ___ BORDEN SPRINGS News Mr. and Mrs. E.W. Henderson of Hendersonville visited Mr. Willie Putnam on Sunday and found him real sick. __ NEWSPAPER issue of Thursday, April 15, 1915 NEW PENSION CLASSIFICATIONS FOR WIDOWS OF SOLDIERS Probate Judge A.H. Glasgow is sending out the blanks for the new classification of all pensioners in the county who are widows of soldiers. In the future all these pensioners will classified according to age. All over 80 years old will be paid as first class; those over 70 second class; and those under 70 will be third class. State auditor M.C. Algood has supplied these blanks to the probate judges and the blanks must be filled out and certified by widows who desire a change in their classification. These papers are not be be returned to the probate judge but to the state auditor at Montgomery, and if they are returned to the auditor by May 1st, the pensioners will receive the increase in July but if the papers are not received by the auditor until after May 1st the increase will not be made until October 1st. _____ The News will accept stovewood in lieu of subscription fee. ___ MRS. LEE DIES IN GEORGIA Mrs. J.W. Lee Jr., a sister of Mrs. J.J. Wager of this place, died at her home in Cedartown, Georgia Tuesday night of pneumonia. Mr. and Mrs. Wager and family left Wednesday morning to attend the funeral which will take place today. ___ ADMINISTRATOR'S SETTLEMENT NOTICE State of Alabama, Cleburne County Probate Court April 12, 1915 In the matter of the estate of Agnes Sears, deceased. This day came Callie Cosper, administratrix of the estate of said deceased and filed her accounts, vouchers, evidence and statement for final settlement of her said administration. In it ordered that the 10th day of May 1915 be appointed a day on which to make settlement at which time all persons interested can appear and contest the said settlement if they think proper. Black of Dodd City, Texas who has been visiting her sister Mrs. Teague since March 2nd, will leave for a visit to her sister in Carroll County, Georgia this week. __ Rev. W.A. Mays performed the ceremony uniting Mr. Daily Simpson and Miss Ethel Lancaster in marriage. ___ Mr. R. Carson Teague who has been employed by the government in the canal zone, is visiting his parents Mr. and Mrs. E.W. Teague. ___ Mr. Ben Owens who underwent a surgical operation in Atlanta on Wednesday, is reported to be resting well. HIs many friends hope for his speedy recovery. Crumpton who is located at Ashland for the practice of law was here last week visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.H.
