(Bud) Gibbs of Hanceville was dead, having been found dead in his bed. Mr. Gibbs is well known in this county, having been a resident of Edwardsville some 25 years ago, and has many friends and a number of relatives in Cleburne. Mr. Gibbs had been a citizen of Hanceville for a good many years where he was held in high esteem. The deceased leaves a wife and a large family of children, all grown, to mourn his death. _____ BELL MILLS News Mr. J.A. Champion spent Sunday with Mr. T.B. Champion and family. __ LOCAL News The friends of Mr. James A. Denman will regret to learn that he had the misfortune recently to lose his residence and content at Gibsonville in Clay county by fire. __ Mr. Farmer Denman wife and child, who are moving from Columbus, Georgia to Anniston, Alabama stopped over Saturday to visit Mr. Denman's sister Mrs. Jesse Tolleson. ___ Mr. Mell Allen and Miss Lizzie Goodman were married last Sunday at 11 a.m. at the home of the bride's uncle, Mr. J.T. Tucker, two miles east of town. Rev. Charlie Ezell officiating. __ Mr. William Herrin has returned from a trip to Chicago, Illinois. ___ Mr. and Mrs. Luther Findley of Atlanta were the guests of Mrs. Findley's parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.A. Lott this week. __ NEWSPAPER issue of Thursday, May 13, 1915 ACCIDENTALLY SHOT Mr. Joe Reaves, a young man of Randolph County near Wedowee, was accidentally shot a few days ago. He and his brother George Reaves had gone out to kill a hawk, had shot the hawk and were standing talking when the gun accidentally discharged striking Joe just below the heart. George carried his wounded brother to Anniston to the Sellers hospital where he died yesterday morning. The body arrived here yesterday morning enroute to Randolph County. Mr. Reaves is a cousin of Mr. D. M. Reaves of Heflin. ____ RESPECTED CITIZEN DEAD Last Thursday, Mr. Harrison Green, an old resident and highly respected citizen of Beason's Mill, died suddenly. Mr. Green was more than three score and ten and was a splendid christian man and he will be missed in his community and by his church. The burial was at Green's Chapel on Friday. ___ MR. A.H. OWENS DEAD The many friends of Mr. Rube Owens will be sad to learn of the death of his father, Mr. A.H. Owens, which occurred last week at Addison in Winston County, the home of the deceased. Before moving to Winston County, Mr. A.H. Owens was a citizen of Wedowee where he was reared. ____ LOCAL News Mr. James Gibbs, a prominent citizen of Ranburne, boarded the train here Monday for Birmingham where he went to attend the meeting of the Grand Lodge of the Odd Fellows. ____ Mr. and Mrs. William Gatewood Milligan of Pensacola, Florida announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter Nellie Mae to Dr. George Houston Leyden of Anniston. The wedding is to be solemnized Thursday evening, June 17th at the First Methodist Church. Miss Milligan is a former Heflin girl, her parents having lived here since their marriage until two years ago when they moved to Pensacola, Florida. ____ RESOLUTIONS OF RESPECT Whereas the creator has seen fit to remove from the home of our dear brother and sister B.D. Chase, their little four year old son. On April 9th, god in his wisdom called John's litle spirit from earth to heaven to live with him. In the death of little John, his father and mother have lost a sweet and loving child. We say to the sorrowing parents to look up, for he has gone from earth and is today basking in the sunlight of heaven. Resolved, that our deepest sympathy is with the bereaved parents but we hope that even so great a loss to them may be overruled by him who doeth all things well. Resolved that a copy of these resolutions be spread upon the minutes of this local, a copy be sent to Brother and Sister Chase and a copy be sent to the Cleburne News for publication. Mrs. W.R.Weston, A.H. Glasgow, J.T. Moore, Committee -------- LOCAL News Mr. and Mrs. L.E. Adams and family attended the funeral of Mrs. Adams' sister, Mrs. Dill, in Anniston on Sunday. ___ Miss Sadie Pettijohn of Birmingham is the guest of her sister Mrs. Sam White this week. __ Homer Mimms is visiting relatives in Red Oak, Georgia this week. __ Mrs. C.W. Williams is visiting her brother Mr. Chas. Robinson at Centerville this week. __ Mr. J.A. Henry of Heflin was the guest of his daughter Mrs. W.B. Jones the latter part of last week. (Bremen, Georgia Gateway News of May 7th.) ___ NEWSPAPER issue of Thursday, May 27, 1915 MRS. PEARSON DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS Mrs. Catharina H. Pearson died at her home at Fruithurst on May 15th, after an illness of several years. Her death is mourned by a loving husband, Mr. Andrew Pearson, and a daughter Miss Florence L. Pearson and a host of friends. Mrs. Pearson was 47 years, 7 months and 5 days old at the time of her death. She was loved and respected by all who knew her. She was a sincere christian, a good neighbor and a generous friend. Besides a husband and daughter she leaves a brother and sister in this country and two sisters in Sweden. She was married to Mr. Pearson March 31, 1900 and was a model companion, and though she has passed to the further, better shore, sweet memories of her life and love will linger with her loved ones till they shall meet her in the land where no partings ever come. ____ PITTMAN - FREEMAN Marriage Mr. Eugene Pittman and Mrs. Sadie Freeman were married last Sunday night at the residence of Judge A.H. Glasgow at 10 o'clock. Miss Lillian Wager played the wedding march. Miss Bessie Lowry and Mr. Scott Robertson were the attendants. ____ LOCAL News Mrs. Nickelson is quite ill this week. __ Mrs. Will Burgess and Mr. Harry Foster left Wednesday for Oklahoma to visit relatives. __ ALL DAY SINGING AT LIBERTY HILL ON SUNDAY There will be an all day singing at Liberty Hill next Sunday in memory of George Haywood. A large attendance is expected and some good singers will be on hand. Mr. Haywood, in whose honor and memory the singing will be held, was a great lover of music and his friends have planned to have a song service that they may sing the songs he loved so well. Everybody invited and especially singers and lovers of song are invited. ___ On Friday last, the case of Mrs. Sarah Currie of Oakfuskee community, came before Judge Glasgow for the purpose of determining if she was of sound mind. After haring the evidence from a number of witnesses the case was summoned to a jury of twelve men who returned the following verdict; "we the jury find Mrs. Sarah Currie of of unsound mind." As she was declared non compos mentis, a guardian will be appointed to look after Mrs. Currie's business affairs and safeguard her property. ____ LOCAL News Harrison Brymer who lives one and a fourth miles west of town, sent to this office Monday a stalk of cotton about eight inches high and says he has four acres this size. This is the largest cotton we have heard of in this section. ____ Mrs. Fay Williams of Tallapoosa, GA is visiting Miss Minnie Adams this week. __ Miss Fanny Hunnicutt is spending a week in Anniston with her cousin, Mrs. Albert White. __ Mrs. Hugh Gibbs of Bowdon, Georgia is visiting Mr. Raleigh Gibbs and family. __ Mrs. Ruth Howle of Anniston is visiting Miss Natyre Reid. __ NOTICE OF APPLICATION TO SELL LAND State of Alabama, Cleburne County Probate Court May 13, 1915 Estate of W.C. White, deceased This day came Robert E. White, as administrator of the estate of said decedent, and filed his application in due form and under oath praying for an order for the sale of certain lands described therein, and belonging to said estate for the purpose of paying debts of said estate. It is ordered that the 14th day of June 1915 be appointed a day for hearing said application at which time all parties interested can appear and contest the same, if they think proper. A.H. Almon has the best apple vineager for sale. __ Mr. Will Haley, who had the misfortune to get his leg broken last week by the turning over of a vehicle in which he was riding, is reported to be doing nicely. Mr. Haley is at St. Luke's hospital at Anniston. __ Mr. and Mrs. J.W.
