Mrs. Bachus is ninety-three years old and is in good health. ___ EDGAR CRUMPTON DEAD News reached here Saturday that Edgar Crumpton, son of Rev. T.N. Crumpton, a former pastor here, was dead. He passed away in Georgia, of appendicitis. A number of his former associates here attended the funeral at Bowdon on Saturday. The family of the deceased is well known in this county, Rev. T.N. Crumpton being a native county and only about two years ago was pastor of the M.E. Church on the Muscadine charge. Edgar taught near Edwardsville the past scholastic year, closing his school at the end of the spring term this year, and his many friends in this county will be sad to learn of his death. ___ BORDEN SPRINGS News Mrs. John S. Holland, nee Green, visited relatives here last week. __ LOCAL News Mr. J.W.L. Newton and daughter Miss Fannie attended the Chattahoochee Singing Convention in Coweta County, Georgia the latter part of last week, returning home this week. Macedonia Church, where the Convention was held is Mr. Newton's old home church. __ Wilmer Atkins has returned from a trip to the Panama Exposition in San Francisco, and the Panama California Exposition at San Diego, California. ___ Mr. Gus Morgan, Misses Bessie and Bert Morgan and Mr.s and Mrs. D.D. Perryman will leave Thursday for Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina. Mrs. J.R. Little and daughter of Atlanta will accompany them. ___ Mr. Ike Hubbard and daughter of Albertville spent several days last week with the family of Mr. J.C. Hanna, a well known young man and loved by all, was married in the afternoon on July 31st to a prominent Selma girl, Miss Willis Otis Day, Rev. J.M. Danelly officiating. The many friends of both extend heartiest congratulations and wish them along and happy life. The Selma Journal. ___ Mr. and Mrs. C.D. Adams have returned to their home at Iuka, Miss., after a visit here to Mr. and Mrs.Lovick Adams. __ After shooting Miss Aileen Faulkner with a pistol at Choccolocco yesterday, Branscomb Scarbrough of that place came to Anniston in the afternoon, informed the sheriff of the affair and was locked up on a charge of assault with intent to murder. Mr. Scarbrough explained to the sheriff that the shooting was accidental but he was locked up, pending an investigation, later being released on bond. The bullet entered the girls side, struck a rib and glanced off, inflicting a painful but not serious injury. Physicians were summoned at once and dressed the wound. Anniston Star ___ DOUBLE WEDDING Tuesday evening, a party from Calhoun County who are camping at the Tallapoosa River, came to town and proceeded to the residence of Col. Thomas H. Shackleford where they called in Judge A.H. Glasgow who performed the ceremony uniting in marriage, Mr. G.P. DeArman and Miss Thelma Davis and Mr. Solon McGraw and Miss Signa Wright. After the ceremony, the party, consisting of eight persons, returned to their camp. ___ BELL MILLS News Grady Cook returned from Lexington, Kentucky last week. __ Geo. Tumlin and family of Atlanta are visiting their sister, Mrs. E.G. Barker this week. __ Mr. Sneed of Morrow, GA is visiting Mr. and Mrs. Ed Vance. __ LOCAL News Married at the parsonage in Fruithurst Sunday evening, August 15th, Mr. Emil Johnson and Miss Lucile Goss, both of Muscadine. May peace and long life, filled with bright days, be their future. ___ Mr. John Wiley has returned from a trip to Mississippi. If Mr. Wiley should leave us, we would miss him. __ Robert E. White and Arnold White of Hightower were in Heflin Monday enroute to Anniston. On their way home from Heflin they killed a rattle snake that measured about five feet in length which had seven rattles. ___ Mrs. L.J. Brock of Tallapoosa and Miss Elizabeth McClellon of Carrollton, GA visited Mrs. E.W. Teague here this week. __ Although still quite weak and able to be up but a little while at a time, Mr. Arthur Owens who is in an Atlanta hospoital where he suffered an attack of pneumonia following an operation, is improving slowly but surely and it is hoped will soon be completely recovered. __ Mr. S.M. Denson, a former citizen of Cleburne county but now of Arlie, Winston County, was a pleasant caller at The News office Saturday last. Mr. Denson was enroute from Whitesburg, Georgia where he had just closed a successful singing school, to Milner in Randolph County where he will open a singing school on Monday. ___ NEWSPAPER issue of Thursday, August 26, 1915 LOCAL News Mr. J.F. Smith and Col. Thomas H. Shackleford purchased the Shackleford and Lovvorn old place near Chulafinnee which was sold at public auction on Monday, by the register in chancery court. ___ Mrs. Thos. J. Lovvorn and son Ridley of Newell, Ala., are visiting the former's sister, Mrs. Thos. H. Shackleford. __ Mr. and Mrs. Major Kaylor of Iredell, Texas were here yesterday enroute home after a visit of six weeks in Cleburne county. ___ HOPEWELL News Mrs. Ezras Shockley of near Bell Mills is visiting her sister, Mrs. Effie Beck of this place. __ Miss Emmer Lee of Hightower is spending the week with her sister, Mrs. Mattie Harris. __ Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Warren were the guests of Mrs. Fanny Thompson on Sunday. ___ Rev. G.B. Boman is at the beside of his son-in-law, Joe Hackney, near Cedartown, GA. Mr. Hackney is very ill. ___ CAMPGROUND News Miss Martha Bentley of Tallapoosa, Georgia is visiting relatives here. __ Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Roberds are the happy parents of a baby girl. __ Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Doster of Leeds, who have been visiting relatives here, returned home on Tuesday. __ Mr. E.M. Crow of Stone Mountain, Georgia visited Mr. G.D. Moore and family on Sunday. They left Monday for Birmingham to visit Mr. Moore's uncle. ___ LOCAL News Mr. A.B. Thrower of Beason Mills has recently purchased a new Ford car. __ Mr. Tom McMurray of Malone, visited relatives here the latter part of last week. __ Oliver Hayes who lives on the Tallapoosa River near the Perryman bridge, reports that he has open cotton. This is the first of the fleecy staple so far as we are informed, to open in this part of the county. ___ Mrs. W.M. Tarpley of Birmingham visited her sister, Mrs. Sam White this week. __ W.S. Collins of Tallapoosa, GA visited C.H. Coggin of East Lake while the latter was here visiting relatives. __ GARRETT KNOTT KILLED As we go to press we learn that Garrett Knott of near Borden Springs, has been killed by two stepsons, the Copy boys. We have not gotten reports of the details. ___ FAMILY REUNION A family reunion was held at the Blake home on Wednesday, Aug. 25th, it being Grandma Blake's 82nd birthday. This is a remarkable family of 10 children, 57 grandchildren and 76 great grandchildren. In the grove, seats were prepared and plenty of lemonade and ice water and violin music ws enjoyed and the relatives greeted one another as they came till noon, and then a long table, which had been prepared for the occasion, was filled to its full capacity. While all were gathered around the table the picture of the family was made, with Grandma Blake seated at the head of the table. After dinner an old time watermelon cutting was engaged in. At 2 o'clock Mr. H.M. Howle climbed into his wagon and announced that there would be some speaking by Judge A.H. Glasgow and Prof. J.E. Middlebrooks. These two gentlemen came forward and entertained the people by very appropriate remarks.
