Nicholson attended the fair at Bremen on Friday and Saturday of last week. __ Mrs. G.B. Evans returned from Munford where she visited relatives the past week. __ Mrs. W.T. Gillespie, son and two daughters, and Mr. Ossie Dickson and Mr. L.B. Sparks motored over from Boaz last Sunday and visited Mr. W.M. Harris and family and other relatives. __ Miss Minnie Owens is spending this week in Tallapoosa the guest of her sister, Mrs. Belle Hill. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, November 11, 1915 LOCAL News Mrs. Herrin has returned from a visit to relatives in Texas. __ Mrs. Alf Turner spent Sunday with her mother, Mrs. Nunnally near Hightower. __ Mrs. A. Jones returned Saturday from Birmingham where she has been visiting her sister, Mrs. Ivey. __ Mrs. D.C. Mims and daughter Miss Ruth attended the burial of Miss Jewel Eidson at Red Oak, Georgia last week. Miss Eidson was a niece of Mrs. Mims. ___ PUBLIC SALE I will offer for sale at my farm, one mile east of J.W. Lacky of McFall, writes The Cleburne News that he has in his possession a copy of "The Cleburne News" dated June 28, 1889 edited by L.D. Faver. The Cleburne County News was an independent paper and was published by B.B. Bridges and L.D. Faver, and like other country editors after following the business for a few years, made their fortunes and retired to private life, or are hustling like thunder to keep "old Pete" away form their door. The Cleburne News was then absorbed by "The Standard". ____ LITTLE GIRL SERIOUSLY BURNED Early Monday morning while playing about the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Deese, the dress of little Ruby, 5 yrs old, came in contact with the open grate and in an instant the flames were incircling her little body. The father, who happened to be near by, rushed to the rescue of his little girl and it was with much difficulty that he extinguished the flames and in doing so, received painful burns himself. The little girl is painfully burned on the left side from her knee almost to her head and it will be days before the unfortunate child will recover. The prayers of our good people go up for the little one in her great agony. ___ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, November 18, 1915 Mrs. M.H. Stephens of Bremen is here with her daughter Mrs. C.P. Crouch. __ Mr. W.W. Faulkner of Phil Campbell, Ala., has returned to Cleburne for a visit and will spend a few weeks in our county. __ Lewis Bradberry and family of near Ranburne were in town Thursday enroute to Phil Campbell, Ala., where he expects to make their future home. __ Mr. W.G. Milligan and son Marcus of Pensacola, Florida were here Monday shaking hands with old friends. They left on southern passenger train No. 24 for their home in Florida. ___ SHOOTING AT EDWARDSVILLE In a difficulty at Edwardsville on Tuesday night, Ed Couch who was acting the part of peacemaker, was seriously if not fatally shot by Irwin Owen, it is alleged. Couch was rushed to a hospital in Anniston. ___ Mr. Joe L. York, a pioneer citizen of Cleburne, who now lives at Maben, has been visiting his sisters, Mrs. V.A. Cook and Mrs. C.F. Dodson and other friends and relatives in the vicinity of Heflin and Bell Mills for the past two weeks. __ W.P. Hammond of this county is suing C.P. Jones of Calhoun county for $3000. damages for alleged malicious prosecution and false imprisonment. Hammond is represented by Johnson & McMahan of Heflin. ___ Mr. E.G. Barker of Bell Mills has sold his river farm to Mr. Champion of that place and will move to Auburn in a few weeks. Mr. Barker was born and reared in this county. The News, with hundreds of others, wish him all the happiness and pleasure that can come to one here below. ___ NEAL DAVIS KILLED BY TRAIN Neal Davis, colored, was killed by Southern passenger train No. 12, east bound, Thursday morning a mile or so west of Edwardsville, being knocked from a trustle to the ground below. It seems that Davis had been to Edwardsville and was returning to his home in Heflin when the accident occurred. Davis worked for Sheriff Rowell and was considered a good worker. ___ TWO KILLINGS IN RANDOLPH On last Monday night two young men, Roy Ayers, a son of Pat Ayers, and Len Perkins, a son of Mac Perkins, engaged in a difficulty near Cato's store in Randolph county. Perkins fired on Ayers it is said, killing him instantly. A young man named Tennant, who is a cousin of young Ayers, fired on Perkins inflicting a wound from which Perkins died a few hours later. The parents of both young men live in Cleburne County. We could not get the particulars as to the cause of the double tragedy. Later, it was reported in Heflin Wednesday evening, that although shot through the head, Ayers was still alive with chances for recovery. Tennant, it is said, has been jailed at Wedowee. Another killing took place in Randolph County on last Friday night. A man named Gore called a man named Yarbrough to his door and shot him, killing him instantly. About six years ago, Gore killed another man named Yarbrough and was tried and convicted of murder and given a life sentence. About ten days ago the Governor parolled Gore on the recommendation of the parole board. Mrs. E.C. Davis and children. ____ NEWSPAPER issue of Thursday, November 25, 1915 LOCAL News Married recently, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A.D. Harper, their daughter Miss Meda, to Mr. Fletcher Baber of Edwardsville.
