Suggs, one of the best known and most prominent citizens in Haralson County, died at his home in Bremen, Georgia Saturday morning at 4 o'clock. Mr. Suggs was dangerously burned about the body four weeks ago while filling an automobile tank. The burn was followed by a severe attack of pneumonia which proved too much for his weakened condition. Mr. Suggs was one of the county's most influential men and was vice-president of the Farmer's Bank of Bremen and was prominent in church and sunday school work, a true Mason, Odd Fellow and Woodman. The writer had the pleasure of numbering him one of his closet friends and little did we realize that when we saw him in the prime of good health only a short time ago that he would so soon be called to the great beyond, but a sudden attack of pneumonia was too much for his weakened condition, and on Sunday he was laid to rest in the cemetery at Bremen with Masonic honors. It is written " it is given unto man once to die and after that the judgment", and while we do not know what the judgment will be in the case of our friend, we do know that he was a self sacrificing soul who stood for the right, and we know that in that great day when mental, moral and physical emancipation of the race can be announced in tongues of fire that the name of G.L. Suggs will be read aloud, and hundred of thankful spirits who have been helped adn inspired by his benedictions will shout his praises. ____ LOCAL News Miss Bessie Lowry of this place was married to Mr. Robert Stegal on Sunday afternoon in Birmingham, the ceremony performed by Dr. Dickerson, pastor of the church. __ An earthquake shock was felt in Heflin a few minutes after four o'clock on Wednesday afternoon. The shock lasted for almost a minute. ___ NEWSPAPER issue of Thursday, October 26, 1916 LOCAL News Mrs. J.C. Osborn, the mother of Mr. Fred Osborn was quite sick at the home of her son the first of the week but is some better now. __ LITTLE BOY IS KILLED WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON The sad news of the instant death of the little 4 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. W.B. Thrash was received in Heflin late Wednesday afternoon. It seems that Mr. Thrash was engaged in hauling wood and he and his little boy were seated on the wagon and in some manner the little boy fell to the ground, the wagon wheels passing over his body with the above result. The little boy was unusually bright for one of his age and was a pet of all who knew him. The death of the little fellow has almost prostrated the parents who have the profound sympathy of their many friends. ___ File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/al/cleburne/newspapers/newspape409gnw.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/alfiles/ File size: 4.1 Kb
