GRIZZARD To the Officers and Brethren of Lebanon Lodge No. 484 A.F. and A.M. Your committee having in charge the duty of preparing resolutions commemorative of our worthy brother, Simeon S. Grizzard, deceased, respectfully submit that: Bro. Simeon S. Grizzard was born in Macon County, Georgia March 4, 1844; was married to Miss Florence Speir of Pike County, Georgia March 12, 1867 and moved to Cleburne County, Alabama in January 1883. He joined the Missionary Baptist church at Concord, Cleburne County in August 1884 and was a consistent member til is death. He joined the Masonic fraternity at Edwardsville, Ala about 1884 and he ever lived a consistent Mason. He was always present at the lodge meetings when not physically disabled, and he loved Masonry and its great precepts and lived up to and obeyed them. On September 13, 1916 at the age of 72 years, 6 months and 6 days, our esteemed brother was called from labor to rest, leaving a wife, two sons and one daughter and a number of relatives and friends to mourn his loss. Your committee recommends the following resolutions: Resolved, that a page in our minute book be set apart, upon which shall be inscribed these words: " Simeon S. Grizzard, born Mar. 4, 1844 - - departed this life, Sept. 13, 1916." Resolved that a copy of tis report be furnished the widow of our deceased brother. Resolved that we wear the usual badge of mourning for thirty days adn that our Lodge Jewels be draped as usual. Resolved that the Cleburne News be furnished a copy of these resolutions for publiciation. Respectfully submitted, Wm. L. Hewitt Jas. J. Turner T.B. Mitchaell, Committee ____ LOCAL News Mr. and Mrs. Ewell A. Howle of Anniston announce the engagement of their daughter Ruth Inus to Mr. Newman Hubbard of Lineville, Alabama. The wedding to take place in December. ___ HEFLIN BOY MAKING GOOD IN U.S. ARMY Among the many Heflin boys away from home that are making good and who have the respect of their associates and superior officers is Marcus Wager, who is here on a visit for a few days to his mother Mrs. G.W. Wager. Marcus is in the United States Army and is stationed at Fort Caswell, N.C. He has charge of the Post Exchange and has had two promotions within a few months and is now Second Corporal. He has many privileges accorded to him and has use of two large motor boats. Marcus is enthusiastic over Army life and the advantages a boy has if he goes in with the determination of making good. It is always a pleasure to note the improvement of our town boys and it is with a feeling of pride that we hear of their progress and their honors. ____ BELL MILLS News Mrs. J.R. Vance visited her daughter Mrs. J.A. Brown last week. __ Mrs. Davis is visiting her daughter Mrs. John Champion. __ LOCAL News Mr. S.T. Thompson who has lived a few miles northwest from Edwardsville has sold his farm and has purchased land a few miles east of Heflin. He had lived at his old home 68 years. ___ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, November 30, 1916 MRS. SALLIE STARR DIED WEDNESDAY MORNING Mrs. Sallie Starr, a highly respected lady residing at the home of one of her son's near here, died Wednesday morning at an advanced age. Mrs. Starr was a good and affectionate mother and kind neighbor and besides three sons, a daughter, Mrs. Dan Cook of Atlanta, GA survive the mother. The remains were carried to Waco, Georgia this morning, Thursday, for interment in the cemetery there.
