Blake. __ LOCAL News Mr. and Mrs. E. Paul Dodson spent Thursday night with Mr. and Mrs. D.C. Mims. They were enroute to Red Oak, Georgia from the state of Texas. They moved to the west several years ago but Paul just couldn't forget the old red hills of Georgia and he said to his better half "it's Georgia for me". Mr. Dodson is a brother of Mrs. Mims. ___ PROMINENT CITIZENS WILL MOVE AWAY It is learned with much regret that Mr. and Mrs. A.Z. Owens will become residents of LaGrange, Georgia the first of January. Mr. Owens has for several years been connected with Bean & McMurray and has many warm friends here, in fact, "Rube" as he is called by his many friends, has been among us so long until he we feel he is a part of our town, he is always helpful and generous to the schools, churches, charities and will be greatly missed. Mrs. Owens, nee Miss Crawford, taught two years here and was generally loved. After her marriage there occurred a vacancy in the school and she was tendered the position which she has so capably filled. ___ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, December 14, 1916 LOCAL News Mrs. Lucile Hanna who has been spending time with relatives at Douglasville returned home on Monday. __ Mr. M.L. Johnson and Miss Retta Jones were happily married last Sunday, Judge A.H Glasgow officiating. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.G. Jones. __ NEWSPAPER issue of Thursday, December 21, 1916 CARD OF THANKS This is to convey the thanks of myself and little children to all who so lovingly assisted us in the sickness and death of our husband and father. He died in the arms of his wife and she trusts that he is now in the arms of his savior. May god's blessings attend you all. Mrs. Mamie Lake and children, Reba and Willen May. ___ CARD OF THANKS We take this method of thanking each and all of our friends who so kindly administered to our needs during the long illness and eath of our dear boy. May god's richest blessings be bestowed upon each and every one is our sincere and heartfelt prayer. Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Morris ___ IN MEMORY OF IRA MORRIS On the morning of December 13th the angel of death visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Morris and carried away their son Ira Morris. The funeral and interment occurred at the Green's Chapel cemetery on the 14th. Ira had been sick for about two months. He was 18 years old and was loved by all who knew him and he had many friends who mourn his death. We tender our heartfelt sympathy in their great bereavement. We all mourn his untimely death but are cheered by the thought that he has gone to a better world to die no more. Ira wil me missed by all of his school mates. Weep not for him, dear family, for he is not dead, but only sleeping. Live to meet him in that beautiful home where parting never comes, is the sincere prayer of a friend. ____ ELISHA LAKE DIED AT ANNISTON SUNDAY MORNING Elisha Lake died at the Sellers hospital in Anniston at 3 o'clock last Sunday morning of acute indigestion where he was carried a few hours before. For several years he had suffered from tuberculosis and is the eighth member of his father's family to die within the past seventeen years, all of them being buried here in Heflin cemetery. The Lake family moved to Heflin from Clay County about twenty years ago. Elisha Lake was at the time of his death a conductor on the Southern Railway and was about 33 years of age at the time of his death. Mr. Lake was well liked by all who knew him and will be missed by his associates. The deceased leaves a widow and two children who have the profound sympathy of the entire community. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. G.B. Boman. ____ BELL MILLS News Lemuel Fordham of near here happened to a serious accident by falling on a circular saw cutting his hand and shoulder pretty badly. __ J.C. McClendon and grandson John Barlett of Bowdon, Georgia visited relatives here the latter part of last week. __ LOCAL News Mr. Legon Morrison and Miss Rilmer Currier were happily married at the home of the bride on Sunday morning at nine o'clock, Rev. J.W. Grubbs officiating.
