Landers in Heflin, his brother, Mr. J.D. Landers, after an illness of two days. Dan Landers as he was familarly known to his many friends, was born April 25, 1866 in Randolph county, being in the 51st year of his life at the time of his death. He had been a great sufferer for many years on account of chronic bronchial trouble but bore his afflictions without murmering. He was quiet in his disposition, faithful to his friends and honorable in all of his dealings with his fellow man. He perhaps had as many friends and as few enemies as any man in Heflin. Mr. Landers had never attached himself to any church, although his life was an exemplication of his trust in god. He was a true Mason and had served the Order as Worshipful Master of his Lodge. Besides a large circle of friends, Mr. Landers leaves four brothers, Messrs. E.W. Landers of Heflin, S.V. Landers of Delta, L.G. Landers of Newell and T. I. Landers of Bowdon, Georgia; two sisters, Mrs. J.D. Ayers of Newell and Mrs. W.L. Brooks of Bowdon. His death was so sudden and unexpected that no one would seem to comphrehend it. Mr. Morgan was found dead in his bed early Friday morning. It is thought that his trouble was acute indigestion. He was in the prime of life and seemingly in perfect health. At twelve o'clock Thursday night in the Masonic meeting he was performing his duties as an officer regularly and cheerfully and his death a few hours later was a grevious surprize to his Masonic friends and the entire people of Heflin. Mr. Morgan leaves every person a friend, a tribute to the life he lead. Many hearts will spend a sad christmas on account of his death. The people of Heflin, one and all, extend their sympathies to parents and relatives of Mr. Morgan. The deceased was a staunch young Mason and his body will be placed away with Masonic honors. ____ LOCAL News Mr. Jim Thompson of Bear Creek is visiting relatives in Cleburne this week. __ Mr. Frank Walker of Bivins, Texas, who has been in Cleburne for the past several weeks looking after his father's estate, will leave the latter part of next week and will carry four other families with him. ___ William Carruth is now a Sergeant in the Officer's Training Camp in Grand Bayou, Louisiana. __ Mae Chitwood is now married and lives in New York. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, December 27, 1917 FUNERAL OF MORGAN CONDUCTED MONDAY in Impressive Ceremony by Masonic Order The funeral and interment of Jep Morgan was one of the most impressive and solemn occasions ever witnessed in Heflin. His universal popularity with both old and young was attested by the hundreds who knew him throughout this section, who spoke in the highest terms of Jep and his gentlemanly disposition. A short service was held at the family residence which was concluded at the church where Revs. Boman and Herrin spoke feelingly of the life and character of the deceased. The Masons also held a short service at the church, which was concluded at the grave. The death of Mr. Morgan has removed from our midst one of the town and county's best young men and it will be hard to find one who can fill the vacancy caused by his untimely death. The Cleburne News extends to the bereaved mother, brothers and sisters heartfelt sympathy in the death of their devoted son and brother. ____ CARD OF THANKS We desire to thank the good people of Heflin and surrounding county for their deep sympathy in our sad bereavement.
