Day attended the funeral of Mr. Clarence New at Tallapoosa, Georgia on Thursday of last week. __ Mr. Spillman Harris of near Lecta is a new addition to The News large list of subscribers at Bell Mills. We knew Spillman when he was a small boy and want to say that he was a rude little rascal too, but he has outgrown his rudeness, so has his brother Ben. ___ Mrs. L.T. Beason and son Russell who have been real sick with the influenza are speedily recovering to the delight of their friends. __ Word has been received of the death of Mrs. Mitchell Blake, who died at her home last Friday. Mrs. Blake was well known throughout the county and was highly admired by all who knew her. Mrs. Blake is survived by her husband and several children. ___ CARD OF THANKS We, the undersigned, wish to thank the people of Edwardsville through the columns of your paper for the many kindnesses shown us while attending the funeral of Jim J. Reese on Nov. 1st. The ministers officiating, those providing music and flowers, those opening up their homes to us, those whispering words of consolation in our ears, those volunteering conveyances and the strong hands that dug the grave all contributed to the building in our minds a tender memory that will long linger. Oden and family ______ NEWSPAPER issue of Thursday, November 14, 1918 LOCAL News Raymond Lovejoy, a young man about 22 years old, died at the home of his parents, near Lecta, last Saturday evening of an attack of influenza. The interment was at Hurricane church. ___ The 14 year old son of Mr. Mitchell Blake, died at the home of his father near Arbacoochee, last Saturday after an illness of several days of influenza. The interment was at Hurricane church on Sunday. The boy's mother died only a few days ago. ____ Mr. George Adams of the Naval Air Service, who is stationed at Pensacola, Florida, spent last week with his father Mr. A.J. Adams. ___ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, November 21, 1918 CARD OF THANKS We wish to thank our many friends for the many kindnesses shown us and the floral offerings given us during the illness and death of our daughter, sister and wife. Thrasher will move their families to Tift County, Georgia the first of December. __ Pvt. Carl Farlow who is stationed at Camp McClellan, in Anniston, spent Sunday here. __ Mrs. Mollie T. Burgess of this place has subscribed for The News to be sent to Mrs. Lula B. Powell at Randlett, Oklahoma. __ NEWSPAPER issue of Thursday, November 28, 1918 SERGEANT FEADOR BROWN KILLED It has been officially announced by the officials at Washington that Sergeant Feador Milton Brown, Machine Gun Company, 325th Infantry, 82nd Division, was killed on the battlefield of France while doing his patriotic duty for his county. Word was received by his wife in Atlanta last week that he met his death on the 12th of October. Sergeant Brown was the son-in-law of C.F. Dodson, editor and publisher of The News. He was born and reared at Luthersville, Georgia, later going to Atlanta where he was staying when he enlisted in the Army in June 1917, not waiting to be drafted. He was immediately made Top Sergeant, later he was transferred to Camp Gordon where he was stationed until his division was sent to France in April of this year. His marriage to Miss Mattie Dodson occurred only a short time before his departure for overseas. Sergeant Brown had many close personal friends in Atlanta and other sections of the country who will be grieved to learn of his death. ____ FORMER HEFLIN MINISTER DEAD Mrs. L.E. Adams received a telegram this Thursday morning conveying the sad news of the death of her father, Rev. L.H. Jackson at his home in Edmond, Oklahoma. Rev. Mr. Jackson was well known to many of our people and his death will carry sorrow to the hearts of all who knew this good christian man. ___ LOCAL News Mrs. Wiley Day of Selma and Mrs. Charlie Day of Birmingham were the guests of Mrs. J.N.
